Was it parking dispute? Or was it a hate crime? Was the whole event covered less adequately and/or more negatively than if the victims were not Muslim?

Was it a hate crime or a parking dispute?

I speak ill of certain people all the time but that doesn't mean if I go out and shoot a bunch of them that that was the reason why.

He may have hated Muslims but maybe he REALLY hated people that take his parking space.

No. Some crimes carry the extra penalty if the crime was motivated by hate (specified by statute). Dragging a homosexual through town from a rope tied to a trailer hitch is an example. Hanging an African American from a tree with a burning cross in the yard is another example.

More accurately, there SHOULD BE no such thing as a hate crime. It is a form of legal sophistry.

Sadly, in this Orwellian and Minority Report world we live in, there is such a thing, a legal sophistry.

so if I catch some guy in bed with my wife, I get charged for a hate crime as well as dragging him through town from a rope tied to my trailer hitch? Or is this just a little something something extra for the lefty protected classes?

It’s defined by statute. Most sea with race, religion, gender or orientation. Jealousy for being a cuck doesn’t qualify in any state as far as I know.

You’d have to ask a lefty.

Yes there is. It's about motive.

Oh, so it's not really "hate" then. What exactly is a hate crime when hate isn't a defining characteristic of the motive?

So how many more times do you want to execute murders? of how many more life sentences without parole are you going to give them?

But you did. Whats the point of executing someone more than once assuming that were even possible? What's the point of multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole? You a believer in reincarnation of something?

    Moronic strawman

People get multiple life sentences even without the added hate crime portion.

Also true that people in bad marriages may become so angered and hateful that they kill their spouse with extreme brutality-- Hate.
Generally speaking, a person who murders either hates the person they kill, or hates the world sufficiently that taking the lives of others is nothing of consequence.

I think that the hate-crime laws are but another way to appease the various groups who want us to think that harm to them is somehow more egregious than harm to ordinary others.

It is a law that is applied with a great deal of latitude in interpretation- and that allows it to be a very discriminatory law, one used to punish those those we dislike with extra consequence. In other words- it's highly ambiguous, and allows both prosecutors and societal mood to impose law according to emotional conditions of the moment.

The difficulty in writing such a law in a way that it won't be distorted and wind up actually aggravating the problem is very high; the result if such that it does more damage than good.

The first was a childish response given that was in the reply you responded to. Perhaps you should have read more carefully before responding. But not without the possibility of parole.

Yes, you did. You mentioned race, religion, gender, orientation, and nothing about hate. So we are not talking about hate crimes here. We are talking about additional punishments for attacking the protected classes of the left.

In short, we are talking hogswollop.
