[Healthcare] PAP the Greedy dog that lost the bone for Singapore.

(Alternative title: [Healthcare] Singapore appointed the wrong Captain, and now the entire ship is sinking quite fast.)

Penny wise pound foolish Singapore just shot herself in the foot.

In 2015, Minister of health Gan Kim Yong admitted that Singapore did not invest enough money on preventive healthcare ("health promotion and diseases prevention"), only now do we know exactly what they were thinking and why.

11 February 2015: “If you look around, our investments in health promotion and diseases prevention, I think... it is actually significantly lower than the amount of money we spend on treating diseases,” he (Minister Gan Kim Yong) said.
: Due to a lack of "holistic approach towards health promotion, taking into account how can we empower consumers so that they make the right choice" http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/empower-consumers-holistic-approach-healthcare-gan-kim-yong

The reason why scant money was spent on developing and promoting preventative healthcare but excessive amounts on tertiary care in Singapore was because PAP wanted to turn Singapore into a medical business hub to make lots of $$$: "In three specialties alone, heart, eye and cancer, I see tens of millions of middle-class patients within a 7-hour flying radius, waiting to be served. If they can be attracted here, they will keep us all very busy. ... and make it easy for the [foreign] patients to seek treatment here." from 'SG medical tourism started by Khaw asking Philip Yeo to implement – Khaw exhorts Yeo with ‘May the Force be with you’', 02 February 2018, https://www.theonlinecitizen.com/20...w-exhorts-yeo-with-may-the-force-be-with-you/

Ends up, all the patients now filling up the hospitals are not the targeted foreigners that PAP envisioned to invite to profitably treat https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/moh-puts-a-stop-to-foreign-patient-referral-contracts , but ARE THE SINGAPOREANS THEMSELVES!!! because the PAP so badly neglected "health promotion and diseases prevention". Consequently, many Singaporeans now have extremely poor physical fitness, are obese, smokers, diabetic, have so many chronic diseases that Singapore is now facing a Tsunami of healthcare costs which for the elderly alone is expected to be S$66 billion by 2030 https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/elderly-health-costs-to-rise-tenfold-by-2030-report (and an insatiable resident need for more hospital beds).

Singapore appointed the wrong Captain, (the WRONG healthcare strategy) and now the entire ship is sinking quite fast.

"As of 2010, more than half of Singapore's adult population between 18 and 69 years old have high cholesterol, four in 10 are overweight or obese, a quarter have prediabetes or diabetes and about one in five has hypertension."https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/start-now-to-prevent-and-manage-chronic-diseases
