Introductions....hmmm. Okay. I am a wife, mother, and writer. Which is a glorified way to say no matter what "job" I am at, I basically work for free. I am attempting to launch my own political news website that doesn't attempt to "lean" anyway other than the truth. Difficult in this day and age. Although I do love writing my opinion articles where my leftist side can shine through. I think the world of politics has become laughable and one can't believe a word that comes out of most people's mouth. News agencies are no longer news agencies but propaganda wheels for whichever side pays them more (i.e Fox News- Republican Heaven, CNN- Clinton News Network). I think everyone needs to remember a little thing called compromise a lot more than we do. Other than that...I am terribly boring. I read a lot. I garden. I try not to go mad. You know, the usual!
Well I would certainly read your news website. I agree with what you said about Fox and CNN (along with many more). Welcome to the forum.
Welcome! I think if you could come up with a trusted, non-partisan source that distills truth from the swirling partisan vortexes, left and right, of disinformation that permeates the electric propaganda boxes ever-present in our time, then you will have a really successful, and lucrative, website indeed. The People are clamoring for just such a service, in the choking cloud of "fake news" that hangs over us all. "Truth" is not a very difficult thing to come to. The "whole, unvarnished truth", on the other hand, is VERY difficult to assemble. Mainly because the reporters, and news agencies, have their own biases. In order to pull this off, you will need to take every news story, analyze the left spin from CNN, then analyze the right spin from FOX, then -and this is the hard part- research the back story of each, follow the money, discover who stands to profit, figure out who the back scratchers are, and whose backs are being scratched, who the political winners and losers are, to come near to the real truth. But know this: the real money is not in purveying the truth. The real money is in selling confirmation bias. Ask Rachel Maddow or Rush Limbaugh, Hannity or Olbermann, FOX or CNN. Their product is confirmation bias, and what they sell galvanizes the political divide. Maintaining that political divide is critical to their business model.
I agree. Which is why I suppose I have struggled to get it off the ground. Of course there is an "opinions" section in which sounding off is acceptable but in the current climate, the masses seem not to want "pure news".
Welcome. I don't see media bias as an issue of "compromise"---I see it as a lack of objectivity. There are hardly any Republicans in the Mainstream Media, and almost none in the Hollywood/NYC entertainment industry. With no attempt at balance, there can be really no trust. For example, look at USA Today's mission statement: ABOUT USA TODAY USA TODAY is a multi-platform news and information media company. Founded in 1982, its mission is to serve as a forum for better understanding and unity to help make the USA truly one nation. http://marketing.usatoday.com/about Notice how there is not one word about having honest reporting, and having no political agenda? Even Hitler and Stalin wanted "unity" under their plans.
I had never thought about that. Interesting. I agree, objectivity is a big problem and there are a number of political groups not receiving proper representation. I suspect that is why Fox News is so popular with Republicans as they are the only media outlet that attempts to cater to them. You've given me a lot to think about, thank you.
Just so all of you know, the website address is https://www.politicalswing.com/ There isn't much on there yet, as I said I am just getting it off the ground. Plus finding a balance between writing and family. But I would love for you to check it out and tell me what you think!
I think that, with enough effort, you can avoid too much bias in your reporting. This will not stop readers from trying to accuse you of bias, though, since those with a strong lean themselves will see you as leaning the opposite way. Let me know if you'd like a proofreader
