Much worse are Germans who hate democracy and love authoritarian leaders like Putin, instead of our wonderful Mrs. Merkel. It seems that these idiots are becoming more and more ...

there are many bad things that threaten the EU, but less internal problems, more e.g. political amateur Trump with his punitive duties. He will also harm his own country with that. China already strikes back.

Because I value free speech so much, I do not get angry at anyone who hold's different opinions than mine. I try very hard to keep my Posts civil & polite because participation in forums like this is supposed to an enjoyable way to pass the time.

When I lived in Germany (then W. Germany) in the mid 1970s, there were no Germans that I knew who supported authoritarian leaders but I know that very much has changed in over 40 years.
The last time I was in Germany, I lived in Freiburg i. Br. & we would ride our bicycles into Switzerland, Alsace - Lorraine & throughout the Black Forest. I had just gotten out of the US Army in 1972 & my time in Germany was among the best times of my life.

I know that S. Germany is more conservative than N. Germany so are the Germans who hate democracy more in the South or do you think that it is nation wide?

I do not believe that Nazism will not be successful here but what I see is that there will be groups or people who will use Nazi tactics or even bring in Nazi elements into campaigns, politics, governmental policies. Maybe it has already happened.

 

I forgot to welcome you ! So welcome. ,!!! I was born in Germany, we'll sort of Germany ( born in a refugee camp) , but like you not an ethnic German. I left when I was a toddler and my only memory seems to be the port of departure - Bremerhaven..

 

I think the people in the South are more conservative than people in the North, but they are, nevertheless, true democrats and they don't reject our Basic Law (Grundgesetz in german), which is our constitution.

Anti-democrats and crazy right-wingers are scattered all over the country. But most of them can be found in the former GDR-area.

Under the Soviets, Nazism was never worked up. It was just banned and the Soviets believed that everybody understand why. But that was a mistake. Many people did not understand it. They believe that the Nazi ideology is true Germanism (as Hitler and his friends told them). They believe that the winners of the WW2 suppress it, because they fear that the Germans could rise up again. These false beliefs of our "Problem Childs" are strongly connected to a bunch of conspiracy theories, which involve Jews, Freemasons and so on.

In fact, it's a very complex topic. German right-wing extremism still leaves many puzzles and open questions for researchers.

Nationalism belongs to 100 years before our time. There are very few conditions where Nationalism can be helpful today, for example if your country is owned by, or threatened by an oppressor. But in most other cases, Nationalism brings you much trouble that nobody needs.

 

A lack of nationalism allows Polish worker to make French cheeses at a lower price.
That is not Fair Trade.
Thus YOUR globalism is an attack on your working people, in the case of Germany & France.
I prefer "national economies".
Let nations develop their standard of living.
Don't France and Germany have a higher standard of living than Poland?
etc. etc. I believe you know where this is going and what I am saying.

You live in the USA, so think of France, Poland and Germany as states of a one big country (named EU) as California, Texas, Georgia of your nation. In this context, we're a little bit underdeveloped (compared to the US). But we try our best to become the United States of Europe. Our aim is to work together instead of being foes of each other. Therefore, nationalism between EU members is obsolete.

That is the problem of your "one big country" concept.
