I'm not sure it was a choice; I think neoliberal predatory capitalism is a natural outcome of the every man - or nation - for himself syndrome.

Virtual slave wages in post WW2 Asia were attractive to many western manufacturers (ie, those that were not wiped out by the competition) and no doubt were a factor in offshoring of production; but in any case no nation can manufacture all it's own required goods and services, nor should it be a goal to aspire to, since every nation must be able to prosper and trade in the global economy.

But I don't see you adopting the correct solutions for a well-functioning global economic system, underpinning prosperity in all nations. Of course I reject the idea of "national sovereignty" that accepts disadvantage and poverty in other nations.

I see Trump is isolated at the G7 summit - he's working for the "sovereignty" (and superiority) and benefits for his own nation - and yet the other G7 members accept the current global neoliberal orthodoxy; meanwhile protestors are rightfully pointing to the failure of international capitalism to attend to peoples' employment and housing needs

None of them is working to establish the international oversight mechanism that is required for a well-functioning co-operative global economic system, one that retains the advantages of capitalism (efficient manufacturing and resource allocation via free markets) but manages the present disadvantages eg, no guarantee of above poverty level participation in the economy, and evident market failure in the delivery of vital public services.
