Here is a real gun control proposal that doesn't ban any guns (that aren't already)

    Firearm Tracing Act

    1. All firearms must be registered with the state for which they will be given a tracking number.

    2. The number will be tied to Drivers License and or State ID as well as the license plate.

    3. Police would then be able to scan the license plate and know of the car is owned by a gun owner and if the person driving the car has a gun though the Drivers License.

    4. All gun owners would be required to declare when stopped by the police for any reason. Failure to do so, would result in 1 year felony probation and prohibition from ever owning another firearm again.

    5. All firearms like cars would have titles which show who owns it. If a firearm is sold they must transfer the title and have it updated in the records, requiring people to do the background checks. Failure to do so leaves the person who sold the gun liable for any crime committed while using the gun.

    6. All lost or stolen guns would need to be reported with in 24 hours to the authorities. A lost or stolen firearm would be defined as any gun where the person in possession and the person who owns it are different. Meaning any individual who did a straw sale/purchase would be liable under the law and face felony charges.

    7. Anytime the gun in not holstered to the owner it would need to be locked up safely. Failure to do so would lead to the owner being liable if anything happened.

    8. A minor can not own a gun and thus the adult would be liable for everything the happens with their gun while the minor was using it including if they murdered someone with it.

All persons would have 1 month to comply with the new law and police could now charge anyone who was found with a gun that was not registered to their name with a felony. It would make it easy to get guns off the streets and make illegal sales traceable.

You cannot demonstrate the necessity for, or efficacy of, universal gun registration.
    Thus: Unconstitutional

You are making an assumption that criminals care about laws. That is pretty silly, don't you think?

I know they don't but as someone going into law enforcement this would mean we would be able to take the gun and arrest them on the spot without any other requirements meaning it would be easier to get rid of illegal gun activity.

I don't see why it would be unconstitutional. However it is already in effect. When you buy a gun, The dealer is required to keep the buyer's data for as long as he or she is licensed as a dealer. He or she is required to turn those records over to the ATF at the end of dealership. So every legal gun purchase is registered already. Law enforcement can trace the gun from manufacturer to dealer. A visit to the dealer can finish the search to the buyer. Illegal gun purchases are meaningless because we have no idea who bought them and criminals aren't going to register them.

As law enforcement already has the ability to arrest felons in possession of a firearm, there's no demonstrable necessity for the restrictions you seek.
You just want to make it harder for the law abiding to exercise their rights.

Simple the necessity is to give police an easy tool to remove illegal guns and people who illegally own guns from the streets. The efficacy of universal gun registration means the government knows where every gun is and thus can prevent gun crime, like in Canada. Considering AWB are still on the books in my state this law which bans nothing would be constitutional.

You would be making more peaceful gun owners into criminals than you would be catching violent ones. Sounds to me like you just want to harass and punish people for doing things you don't like, like we've been doing to weed smokers for almost 100 years... no lessons learned at all huh?

In MD there is currently no way of knowing if someone is an illegal gun owner because you have to have cause to stop them and check their ID, under this law you could stop anyone you see with a gun and verify. That is a big difference.

Not without "cause" this removes the cause part.

There's no demonstrable necessity for removing the requirement for probable cause.

I do not know that and I am a supporter of the second amendment. Following your logic it should be unconstitutional for government to require that you register your car. Yes I realize cars aren't mentioned in the constitution for obvious reasons but the comparison is valid. Why not just increase the penalties for committing a felony with a gun? The problem isn't the gun, it is the shooter, right?

The fourth amendment applies to every state, not just MD. If what you say is true then the law would be unconstitutional.

I have an unregistered car. I bough it unregistered, I own it unregistered, I posses it unregistered, and I operate it, unregistered.
    All legally.
    Your point?
Not only ,that, but keep violent felons in prison until they can be trusted with a gun.

Oh, and FYI -- I thought I was responding to the OP. Sorry.
The fact there is no demonstrable need for registration means registration unnecessarily restricts the right to keep and bear arms.

Bearing arms is a constitutionally protected right. Why should exercising one constituionally protected right negate the protections guaranteed by another constitutional right?

Just wait until you get pulled over and asked for license and registration that's going to be a hefty fine if not points/loss of license.

The problem with that analogy. You don’t have to register a car if you choose not to drive on publicly funded roads so owning a car is a right but driving on publicly funded roads is a privilege.

I operate my unregistered car legally. None of the above will ever happen.

Why? If the gun isn't with them, it's stupid.

This won't stop criminals and just makes it more expensive to transfer a gun and more aggravation for honest people.

This also will not stop criminals.

Gun owners are already liable for what they shoot, lol. Why make the firearm useless? You skipped the part where the person can actually use it, if it has to be constantly holstered or locked up. I don't shoot my gun through my holster.
