A mace has at best some flanges, certainly no spikes, this is because maces were designed to be used by priests in orders forbidden to use weapons designed to draw blood, but quite alright if designed to crack skulls and break bones

I think the Morning Star was for after you were defrocked for "accidentally" killing a Bishop

Yep. Clerics in D&D use them, but they can be used by fighters.

I believe the Morning Star was attached to a staff by a chain and that the object found is a mace.
Of course I could be wrong,in any case they both do a lot of damage.

I dispute that sirrah, and will meet ye in yon courtyard.

You bring your morning star on its chains. I will be in an Abrams M1A1 Main Battle Tank.

I stand corrected, I had thought the spikes were the definitive part as I have seen a weapon which had just three unadorned iron balls on a chain but an engineer friend of mine says that probably wouldn't work as welds were simply not that strong at the time and balls bouncing about like that would simply fly off, but the spikes would stabilize them. I guess that the TV show Robin Hood may not be an absolutely authoritative source for medieval weaponry after all.

Especially against armor, which I believe is what such weapons were primarily designed for. Plate armor would too easily turn a blade.

Mail will turn most blades but it will not stop a good stout club, which is mainly what this thing is.

I am lost, especially since the Wand of Wonder can only be wielded by a Virgin Pure of Heart
