    ...Aussie gal from Melbourne, Australia.
Came to the USA after a cruise to Alaska, and met long lost rellies in CA after locating them via Ancestry, and since doing a DNA, have found a huge connection to many in the USA.
Little did they know they had a Aussie as a 2nd or 3rd or 4th cousin :)

Fantastic place your country, loved it, and the people are awesome!
Look forward to coming back again soon, and in the meantime, lovely to be here in this forum as well.

    Cheers from moiye.

Didja get along with them alright, or was it one long pregnant silence because you had nothing in common?

    G'day by the way.

    Welcome to PF.

Please remember that we take umbrage when "furriners" dare to criticize us and our ways even when said criticism is entirely justified.

Aside from that we are very similar to Australians in that we have almost an entire continent to ourselves and believe that the sun shines out of our asses. ;) We also share that we live around things that want to kill us although with you it is your environment and with us it is ourselves.

Since we have so much in common you should fit in and feel right at home.

FTR there are a few of your fellow Australians here already but they are easy to recognize because they all have a funny accent. ;)

:roflol: I can't stand it! Whenever I heard that Julia Gillard making a speech it was like fingernails on slate to me. But then I always believed she was exaggerating it for whatever reason.

Thank you all, for the welcome :)
I tried to do a quote to answer individually, but don't know where this quoting went to! Must learn the ropes around here.
Cerebus, we got along so well, it was amazing, and comparing photos and family stories and origins from a 100 year split in families since immigration took place after the 1st WW. We bonded instantly and they want us to come back. And I want to go back, wish I could live there half the time, but....I think your current president has put a bit of a stop to making that so.
They (my mum's elder cousins, one just turned 90, are too elderly to travel, and it is a long gruelling flight between USA and Oz, especially if one is in cattle class on a plane, it kills me!) My mum is also 90.
So it's up to me to be the go-between of re-uniting families between Italy, USA and Australia. And I have! It's an amazing triangle of people across the globe.
And.....luckily we have varying degrees of the aussie accent in Oz, mine isn't anything like Julia's! Depending on which state once comes from, Queenslanders seem to say "aye" at the end of every sentence, they talk slower, and Victorians/Melbournians speak fast. I think the USA have varying and speed of speech depending from which state persons are from.

Tecoyah, I will gladly love to!

Derideo_Te, I already feel at home here, I knew I would, I have been in many forums, and thought this looks like a good place, lots of interesting people, topics etc.
And yes, even our rellies in the USA were intrigued with our 'accents' hehe......yep I said, you never knew you had little aussie bleeders as cousins in Oz did ya! Surprise surprise.
Life does have surprising twists, and who knows, some of us could be related via dna on this here forum, but won't even know. I am amazed by it myself. We are not what we think we are!
Will look for a forum with this topic, and would love to go into more.

    Ooroo for now :)

I found where the quotes went!
I worked out the avatar, now I want to know how to put a expression/saying/adage on the bottom of my postings if that is possible, thank you.

It's the upward inflection on the last word of every bloody sentence that hurts my ears the most. :evileye: Glad to hear the reunion worked out well though . . . it could have been a disaster, and left you wondering 'Was my journey really necessary?'

Cerberus, I don't do that upward inflection! I probably sound more like Eric Bana, and with a bit of a country twang, as I am a hearty country girl. But,I still talk fast! Amercians speak more concise and slowly, your lot are good to understand :)
Re: visiting unknown people, nothing ventured, nothing gained, let not fear of the unknown dictate. We are all on each other's facebooks and keep up with each other.
We also went to Disneyland too, as it was nearby....absolutely gobsmacked with the amount of people there, but then again, the weekend of the 60th birthday for Mickey or was it Disneyland.
Anyhow, loved "tomorrow land". So much fun!

Thank you Derideo_Te :) I will do that now and see how it goes.

I'm back again, and I don't seem to have that option, maybe not yet as I'm a newby?

Jules had a very flat voice. She could get her message across forcefully if needed -"I will not be lectured about sexism and misogyny by this man.".

Welcome. To the US and the forum. I have visited Oz but once and loved it as well. It was the West coast, Perth/Rockingham. I never found more friendly and welcoming people in my life. As I left the ship, there was a field and what appeared to be miniature kangaroos. (I was told they are tamars.) But I started walking toward them and someone hollered out to come back, there are 2-steppers out there. Deadly snakes. OK, then. It is time for the pub instead of exploring nature. :)

Hiya Sallyally! And yes, that was an absolute classic when Julia said that, makes one realize how much of an old boys club it really is, with Julia being our very first (although short lived) female Prime Minister(ess) in Oz, I was kind of happy for a while! I did admire her strength and courage for being in that position. I wish more people would have given her credit. But typical Oz, tall poppy syndrome!

Hi John Sample, glad you had a sample of Oz! Now I have been to Perth, a few short years ago, when the son was racing jetski over there, they had this big event H2o, and Perth is lovely, and so too are the people, and yet, they are sooooo way over the other side of Australia!! Every state of Oz have their funny little idioms and expressions that each of us don't understand! I have to look up what "2-steppers" are!!
Then we have Queensland, they say their potato cakes (as we say in Oz) are potato scallops...well, one thinks of seafood, as in Scallops, but it's just a potato cake.
Then we have Adelaide, and when we stayed in a motel, with the son racing super-cross over there, we ordered a Pizza, and the delivery guy says "Youse are from Melbourne?" and I said, "Yeah, how did figure that?" and he said...wait for it....."You have a 'Melbourne accent' ".....I was astonished! We Melbournians have our own accent? Wonders never cease :)

Welcome aboard. Is your name "Lois" or is LOls something different? I'm just curious. Don't give it up if you don't want. I respect privacy.

Hey there, hiya Texan, glad you found me! It's actually a shortened version of my real name, Lols, ( but Lois is nice). I get called Lol, Lolly, Lola, and I say, call me anything, but never late for dinner! Oh yeah, I'm the one that cooks it, so never mind, scrub that silly last expression out! I will inbox you over the other side of the pond what it is. Catch ya later :)

I couldn't begin to differentiate between Australian accents. All I know is that no one was interested in my accent, but the girls were gathered around the southerners in our crew asking them to say this or that and then crooning & laughing when he did.

Geez, the southerners get the attention? Well, you said you were off to the pub for a beer, did you like the aussie beer?
Also, about cruising I meant to ask, what ship was that, have you been on many cruises, I love cruising, been on 6, and going on another in March, on this huge monster of a ship called Ovation of the Seas.
My very first cruise, back in 2009, we were at the edge of a cyclone that hit Fiji, and it was such rough seas! OMG! On the fifth deck, the waves came up that high past the windows.
So every other cruise since has been a cinch.
