I did like the Aussie beer. Although after 3 months at sea in the Indian Ocean, my taste buds were probably not too picky. Out west they sneered at Foster's and they all served Swan Lager. I still have a ceramic mug with the black swan logo on it.

All we know about Oz is Foster's Beer and Crocodile Dundee.

 

That was 3 months out of six. All submerged.

I am probably out of bounds here (off topic) but we anchored off Diego Garcia, a British possession dominated by the US military. The boys there were thrilled to have a ship visit and they brought us their most precious food. Stale donuts baked a few days ago in the US. In contrast, the lack of storage and lifetime of fruit & veggies meant after a week at sea, you get canned beans. Since flour is small and bread is big, we got fresh baked bread, donuts, cakes, everyday underway. But nothing but canned veggies. So in the end, we baked Diego a ton of bread and they gave us fruit and what you need for a green salad. Three months without a salad is not good. Six is worse.

 

Soitenly not! Guys are first and foremost expertise on that matter. Do you play pocket billiards?

Oh, submerged, as in submarine? Gosh sounds all militaria and not holiday cruising. Correct me if I am wrong. It all sounds intriguing though. I went in a submarine once, at the Sydney Maritime Museum, oh God, talk about lack of room to move, and them little round whatever you call them doorways, I thought I would get stuck, leg in first, not a good idea!

 

No holiday cruise. For sure. But the Aussies loved touring the boat. I gave so many tours I thought I should have Mickey Mouse ears.

 

I have a pair of the cutest Mini Mouse ears, I wore them the whole time in Disneyland, made me 3 inches taller and easy to spot in a crowd in case I got lost!

No but I do juggle balls. It's one of my hobbies and I've been doing it and attending juggling conventions for about 25 years.

That's really good! Now how did I work that out you were into juggling, just a hunch, and I picked the little emoticon with the juggling.....see, I'm tuned in.
Seriously, I have tried to do the juggling, my daughter does it well, she practiced and practiced for a part in some circus commercial and she did well.
I'm still trying to get it right, good eye hand co-ordination needed! I will probably try it later now!

 

Try to remember that the throw is more important than the catch and timing is everything.
If the throws are accurate and consistent (ie they go to the same height and follow the same trajectory every time) they will fall into your hand and you won't have to watch them fall in order to catch them.
Watch the ball until it reaches the top of its arc then immediately throw the next one and watch that till it reaches the top of its arc. Rinse and repeat.

Hi Moi, thanks for your interesting welcome. I think you sprung me with the pond, that’s the British influence from being on an English forum for 15 years
And yes, a fine is endorsed for not voting!
Unlike the USA, where there are campaigns seemingly forever to plead for people to get up off their backsides and vote. I don’t understand the apathy by some that don’t care about their future presidency and policies etc. But, having said that, my own adult kids used to ask do they HAVE to vote as it seemed their generation didn’t want to bother with politics and don’t understand it much until older. They felt it made no difference. All I could say is that everyone counts and makes s difference.
I did some work at a time of voting to count the votes and some of the hilarious things written gave me a quiet laugh, but knowing that would be counted as a ‘donkey vote’ and would be added to the winning party making that party seemingly more popular! Then there’s the ‘informal’ votes, nothing is marked, totally clear ballot paper as they received it. This type of informal vote, just gets put aside and counts for no political party.
As for the natural gas being sold to Japan for less than what we pay, I do have a link about that, writes how not even the government is allowed to change that, and in the dark about it and how and why. My understanding many years ago was the Japanese were only paying .3c per litre! Now, I read, we in Oz pay 40% more than they do in Japan. I will try to put that link up as I’m not on my home computer, travelled interstate today, and one finger typing on an iPhone! So excuse any predictive text errors!
Now as for our festive season/school holidays, best time to have summer! Beaches, cricket, BBQ, boating and fishing. Lots of other outdoor activities. Why be stuck indoors for all holiday season. We have winter in the middle of the year. We can go to sunny places like Queensland when it’s cold, and soak up sun and sunshine or enjoy the cold in Victoria with the crackling fireplace, and Christmas in July that a lot of our restaurants make it s treat!

Most of us that understand Americans or been there, do love it. I love a sunburnt country also (AU), New Zealand, Canada, and Alaska.

As for summer soltice, backwards not so much, opposites yes, and that’s the way of our earth for billions of years, with or without humans!
But we adapt!
