I live in small town, next to old capital city (Turku); now Helsinki is our capital city (if someone didn't know that already). I'm just regular dude. I have my small business, living in row house with my wife (no kids) and life is simple & good.

    One funny cultural difference:

We - in Finland - don't use words 'amazing', 'great', etc. as people in America do... things just are, something happens or everything is just still (we can't find any reasoning to highlight those things) That's one thing what I think sometimes, why it's like that. Usually fin people say 'ok' and only few times in year 'mahtavaa' (= great). Some people may think that our lives are deeply miserable, boring and dull, but it's not like that. Maybe I can explain it by using numbers. If something is 'great', by that (if I really use that word), I mean it's 10/10 and when it's 10/10 I'm not even able to say how to improve it. If I find any - even tiny - flaw, it's 9/10 and I'm not saying it's 'great' or 'amazing'. Some immigrant say those 'great' / 'amazing' words when they see northern lights and we are mostly: "yawn, what's so special about it?" or even tap water can do the trick 'wow, clean water, so amazing' - and we are just "LOL what an oddity right there". If you try to find non-drinkable water you need to drink from southern lakes or rivers - 3. option is drink from trains tap (it's not for drink, there is a sign - don't drink.. only for washing hands). Everywhere else you can drink from lakes, streams, rivers and tap water (in houses) is always clean.

Reason why I came to this forum is that something odd is happening now and because of internet I can do some homework about current issues. What I don't get now is that why people can't see things like: we all live on same planet, called earth and if we have any hope left in our hearts we should think more about what we are doing with our lives. And how our actions is affecting now. I'm not saying we have perfect knowledge about climate change, but we should reduce our pollution, reduce plastic use and so on - whatever is going to right direction. That's just my opinion what we should do if we are going to be here as human race. If collective suicide is absolutely best option, stop-care-about-nature-policy is only viable policy for everyone. In nutcase, are we just trashers or something else?

If someone is interested our education system, here is a link (in english). and Finland looks like: this. (timelapse video)

...and, I'm not yet Trump supporter (we have few those in Finland, but I'm not)... when Trump is gone, I like to visit USA, once in a lifetime trip - just dreaming :)

Is Turku the warmest area in Finland?
    And furthest from Russia?

    Please share your ancestry.
Sometimes when I have met a Finn, they have the
whitest, pearliest skin I have seen without being albino.
And sometimes they are a bit darker with black hair.
    What am I observing?
Not counting immigration, who are the Finns, please.
By language, NOT Indo European ;)

    Thank you

PS Do you guys eat Lutefisk too?

    Welcome to the forum.
You are saying what many people say. I also don't understand why this isn't universally acknowledged.

It can be somewhat ok, but later on it's not good. Have to think longer periods and when climate is warming everywhere people have hard time and it's one reason why people have to move to better location. Finland's economy is small and we can't take too many immigrants - our system will collapse quickly. We have lot empty space and very limited resources. Maybe north will be overpopulated if warming continue, but I hope we can do right choices to ensure better future and deal with difficult issues without dull ignorance. Empathy is bad thing if you're greed rich person, but it's valuable for humanity.

Welcome to the forum, and welcome in advance to the US of A.

Why people would divide themselves and fight while the planet burns down must stem from humanity's evolutionary baggage, our deep-rooted tendency toward tribalism and war, toward radical ideology and beliefs held for emotional reasons, not factually based reasons.

I can't say what's the warmest area in Finland, but last summer was too hot and we don't have that many work places with AC. Turku isn't furthest from Russia, it's Vaasa or Kilpisjärvi. Lutefisk was common dish really long time ago. Our skin is a bit pale, as it is in other northern countries (like in scandinavia, Finland isn't part of that).

    @Qohelet

The Finn language is not Indo European
Who are the peoples of real Finland? Please.
Less likely to be Swedish considering the basic Language difference.

Democrats are running on a platform that will require massive (in their own words) government intervention. Tell us again how it is likelier to happen under a Republican regime?
