I dont like Hinkypooper but the reason he is the first one out is because he told the truth about socialism, that was a no no to democrats, Bruce Babbit ran for the presidency in the 80's, he is the only one from either party that said the current financial system needed a tax increase, he was the first one out, he said to me "the truth has no place in a run for president". So true, probably on both sides but definitely on the democrat side, you ALWAYS must toe the party line or else. Hinkypooper found out. Now a senate run for that idiot will be easy in Colorado, so many people ran away from California to escape the idiocy of democrat rule and moved to Colorado, learned nothing at all, and now vote for the same morons that they did in CA so a democrat has an easy path to that seat. We are blue now, as in sadly blue.
He's out because he never gained much in the polling and can be much more useful in helping the Democrats take the Senate.

I think the reason why nobody got behind Hickenlooper because he has a strange and funny sounding last name. America already tried having a President with a strange and foreign/Muslim sounding name and how did that work out ?
Well, did he or did he not get booed by Democrats in California when he dared to mutter the suggestion that Medicare for All was not feasible? It wasn't a Republican crowd he was in front of. As always, I am right again. It's getting boring being right all the time.
Heartbroken, no. But Hickenlooper was one of a very few announced Democrats that would have received my vote in 2020. No name recognition and lack of media attention did him in. As it will to most of the crowded field. If Hickenlooper runs for the senate, I would expect him to win. The media has concentrated on Biden, Sanders, Warren and to a lesser extent on Harris. Perhaps Buttigieg might be able to join those four, or not. One can't take off if no one ever heard of you. Over half of America never heard of Hickenlooper and that was his downfall or withdrawalfall.
