Fact is they can't become "female." And regardless of how good looking, many people will always know they are a man. People are well conditioned to the slightest tiny fine details of other people's appearances, body language, facial expressions etc. Only truly gorgeous or really ugly and obese people can nearly universally pass as the other gender because of the distraction factors.

It really would make MORE sense for true transgenders/transexuals to see themselves as a 3rd gender - rather than trying to be the opposite sex they were born to, which they can't. I believe they increasingly realize they can't - so come into a true discomfort with themselves - which nearly every transgender will tell of. They are not comfortable in their own skin as a man. But won't be as a woman either. That desperate need to perfectly fit an exact stereotype being impossible leads to perpetual misery. It would make far more sense for them to perceive themselves as a unique 3rd gender. But for most, it likely more accurate they really are a "she-male" and many she-males are content with themselves as they are not in constant self denial or trying to pretend to be what they are not, ie "a woman."

Anthropologists generally can not determine race by measuring bones. They can make estimates sometimes on facial structure. They absolutely can determine what a person's sex was by measuring bones. That actually applies to virtually all mammal species, not just humans in terms of pelvis comparisons. Females birth offspring, males do not - even if you THINK otherwise.

A man who is (using your terminology) a woman by gender, is still a man by sex in athletics because he has male bone structure, anatomy, muscle structure and metabolics. No, a person is NOT who they think they are. A person isn't tall because they think they are tall. Isn't thin because they think they are thin. That's just nonsensical gibberish.

Professional basketball players are tall. It is not that they think the are tall. Men have longer legs per height than women because they are men. Thinking they are women doesn't make their legs shorter.

It is clear you want all the positives of being a woman, but absolutely would not endure any of the negatives that actually would take. Once again, is having your legs shortened above and below your knees and your pelvis widened on your wish-list? If not, then you have no desire to actually be a female.
