You are right. Destiny's Child was r&b and perhaps pop.
You don't have to say but I'm wondering how old you are now. Did you know that she was the epitome of hip hop and at the top of the charts in the 90's, first with the Fugees and then as a solo artist? Lauryn is widely credited with being the Queen of Rap (no offence to Latifa).

Her first solo album was added to The Library of Congress and her music is part of one or more exhibits at the new museum of African-American History and Culture in DC. Her soulfoul voice and acting career made her a triple threat.

She has won numerous Grammy's. There were female rappers before her but so many who came after have credited her as the standard bearer.

Ah, The Roots!! I saw them on a couple of tv specials, recently. The drummer and tuba player are my favorites. Overall ... classic, creative, talented musicians. Their collaboration with Jill Scott on an old Erika Badu song was sublime.

Well perhaps I am just too young and stupid. I just feel like people rarely ever mention her anymore.

No, you're not stupid. She took a loooong hiatus while at the top of her career, after she started having kids. She also had conflicts with people in the music industry, which is another reason that people say she dropped out of the scene. She's touring again now but at her age it's probably too late to make a real comeback and her singing voice has deteriorated to a degree. These are reasons why people probably don't mention her these days but lots still remember her as the greatest of all time from her heyday. You probably knew all of this, lol.
