    R. Lee Ermey, actor in 'Full Metal Jacket,' dies at 74

By Madison Park and Carma Hassan, CNN
Updated 11:21 AM ET, Mon April 16, 2018

(CNN)R. Lee Ermey, the actor known for his Golden Globe-nominated role as an intimidating drill sergeant in "Full Metal Jacket," died Sunday at the age of 74, according to his manager.

Ermey died from complications of pneumonia, said Bill Rogin, his manager, in a post on Twitter. CNN's calls and emails to Rogin were not returned.

Ermey played the role of the tough Gunnery Sgt. Hartman, who trains a new group of recruits in the 1987 film "Full Metal Jacket." He received a Golden Globe best supporting actor nomination in the movie directed by Stanley Kubrick.

The Vietnam veteran brought authenticity to the role after having served in the Marine Corps from 1961 to 1972. He spent two years as a drill instructor at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and rose to the rank of staff sergeant. He was medically retired for injuries in 1971 and in 2002 he received an honorary promotion to gunnery sergeant, according to a biography on his website.

"It is extremely difficult to truly quantify all of the great things this man has selflessly done for, and on behalf of, our many men and women in uniform," Rogin said in a statement issued on Facebook.

"He has also contributed many iconic and indelible characters on film that will live on forever."

(CNN)Verne Troyer, who played Mini-Me in two of the Austin Powers comedy films, has died at the age of 49, according to statements posted to his social media accounts.

    Troyer was 49.
"Verne was an extremely caring individual. He wanted to make everyone smile, be happy, and laugh," a statement posted to his social media said. "Anybody in need, he would help to any extent possible. Verne hoped he made a positive change with the platform he had and worked towards spreading that message every day."

    • vernetroyerIt is with great sadness and incredibly heavy hearts to write that Verne passed away today.

Verne was an extremely caring individual. He wanted to make everyone smile, be happy, and laugh. Anybody in need, he would help to any extent possible. Verne hoped he made a positive change with the platform he had and worked towards spreading that message everyday.

He inspired people around the world with his drive, determination, and attitude. On film & television sets, commercial shoots, at comic-con’s & personal appearances, to his own YouTube videos, he was there to
show everyone what he was capable of doing. Even though his stature was small and his parents often wondered if he’d be able to reach up
and open doors on his own in his life, he went on to open more doors for himself and others than anyone could have imagined. He also touched more peoples hearts than he will ever know.

Verne was also a fighter when it came to his own battles. Over the years he’s struggled and won, struggled and won, struggled and fought some more, but unfortunately this time was too much.

During this recent time of adversity he was baptized while surrounded by his family. The family appreciates that they have this time to grieve privately.

Depression and Suicide are very serious issues. You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside. Be kind to one another. And always know, it’s never too late to reach out to someone for help.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in Verne’s name to either of his two favorite charities; The Starkey Hearing Foundation and Best Buddies.

Eunice Gayson, First ‘Bond’ Girl, Dies at 90.....

Eunice Gayson, the first ever Bond girl, died Friday. She was 90.

Gayson’s Twitter account posted the news, writing that she was “an amazing lady who left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She will be very much missed.”

Gayson played Sylvia Trench in the 1962 “James Bond” franchise starter “Dr. No,” starring Sean Connery as Bond. She first asked Bond for his name at a card table, resulting in the iconic, “Bond. James Bond.” She reprised her role as Trench in “From Russia With Love.”

Originally, Gayson was intended to play M’s secretary, Miss Moneypenny, but Lois Maxwell landed that role instead.

After her role in the James Bond films, Gayson went on to appear in TV series “The Saint” and “The Avengers.” Her career began on stage as Frau Schrader in a production of “The Sound of Music” at the Palace Theatre, and she portrayed Margaret in the Hammer horror film “The Revenge of Frankenstein” in 1958.....snip~

Jonathan Harris, who played Dr. Smith on the Lost in Space series, died in 2002. But I happened to see this biography of his life and career, and found it most interesting.

I saw an interview with Neil Simon where among many other things he spoke about writing "The Odd Couple". It was based on his brother moving in with him after his divorce. He wrote the entire play with Walter Matthau in mind. As soon as he finished the play he sent a copy to Matthau to read. Matthau called Simon after he finished reading the play and said, "I love it. I want to play Felix." Neil Simon almost fell on the floor. "Are you crazy? I wrote Oscar for you." Matthau replied, "Oscar I can phone in. With Felix I'll really have to act." Simon said to Matthau, "Act in somebody else's play. You're Oscar."

An interesting side note. Both Jack Lemon and Tony Randall, who were best known for playing Felix in the movie and TV series, said Art Carney, who played Felix on Broadway opposite Matthau, was the best Felix of the three of them.

Stan Lee, creator of legendary Marvel comic book superheroes, dies at 95.....

Stan Lee, the godfather of Marvel Comics whose cast of characters such as Spider-Man, Hulk and the X-Men were beloved by millions of readers for decades before becoming a multibillion-dollar movie empire that dominated box offices in the 21st century, has died. He was 95.

Lee's representative, Dawn Miller, confirmed he died Monday in Los Angeles.

Stanley Martin "Stan Lee" Lieber, born Dec. 28, 1922 in New York City, started his career as an office assistant at Timely Comics in 1939. As a teen, Lee said he was working odd jobs to help his parents pay the bills, when he heard about the position.

By 1972, Lee rose to the top of Marvel Comics, being named the company's editorial director and published.

After almost 60 years with Marvel, Lee left to create his own media group, Stan Lee Media. He kept a hand in Marvel, being named the company's chairman emeritus.

Marvel got its second life with a score of films and televisions series in the late 2000s through the 2010s. Lee served as executive producer on dozens of the new Marvel incarnations. In almost every film, Lee appeared in short cameo roles to the delight of his fans.

Lee's wife, Joan, died of a stroke in July 2017.

The comic book legend is survived by a daughter, Joan Celia Lee.....snip~
