Agreed. In this instance, some hardened inner city black thugs thought it would be fun to travel out to a small white middle community to terrorize some easy targets. Given that the nearly 90% of Chicago murders go unsolved, there can be little doubt that this was these teens first rodeo.

That 14 year old had a knife. I'm always shocked over the lack of concern for innocent law abiding people. Gun control/banning people come across as criminal advocates.

We had a 16 year old in my state who accosted an elderly couple to steal their debit card and took the time to rape the 88 year old woman. He then accosted a woman with her two young children and shot the husband who appeared to find his family held by a maniac.

That youth breaking into your home very well could have no regard for human life.

Err, no. There is no evidence it made any difference at all. The village is tiny so the sample is small. In fact year before this "law", they had zero murders in 1981, so any subsequent murders would conclude that there was a massive increase in murders

I do not believe that they will be charged for murder and if they were they will not be convicted. What they should be charged with and convicted is some form of manslaughter. They should serve time.

May I suggest that homeowner saved the taxpayers and general public, tens of thousands of dollars and lots of misery over this wannabee thugs life.

 

I do not believe that our legal system is up to snuff to punish all of the miscreants out there.

 

It's a near-perfect law, although it could be harsher. It discourages crimes against the vast, law-abiding society.

And of course, nobody should expect the laws to be able to fix stupid.

Why is it a tragedy? It's Darwin's theory at work. Had his parents (bet: He's from a single parent household) taught him better he might be alvive today. Kids can't raise themselves, this seems to be a prime example of that. For me I don't see it as a tragedy, just Darwin at work. When ever a bad person removes themselves from the gene pool and can't reproduce society wins.
