He has to go on ignoring closed-minded people. We should be for that which is in our interests and against things that aren't. If what is in your interest happens to not coincide with what is popular in your social circle, just pretend to not have an interest in the topic and reserve the deeper conversations with open-minded people. Closed-minded people won't do anything but curse you out and give you a headache.
