This is political posturing as usual...Beohner has already thrown down the gauntlet to Obama, and Obama will shoot down whatever he tries. Basically, we all get to watch the BS as usual and hope beyond hope at least a few things get through it.

Our political system is pathetically broken.

How is this form of corporate welfare any better than welfare for the least wealthy? Does the right abandon any claims on what the general welfare means, from now on?

I drive trains for BNSF. I drive trains loaded with oil from Canada. A mile long train. Think Lac Megantic disaster. A mile long with distributed power moving oil across the states to the end destination. Houston. Once again look up Lac Megantic. I get paid a sinful amount of money doing that. So keep up the fight against the pipeline. I and my fellow engineers thank you for lining our pockets and Warren Buffet's.

Newsflash. Because of NAFTA, its already crossing the border by train to Texas. I drive one of those trains. So keep up the fight against the pipeline, my plane is expensive to operate.

Providing for the general welfare should involve cost effective mass transist, potentially, maglev capable and in a vacuum environment.

We are talking about major environmental impacting spills that have occurred with other transporting methods such as the Exxon Valdez. Regular routine inspections of an above ground pipe is easy to accomplish. The EPA is now recommending all fuel and oil tanks be built above ground with a containment area built underneath to capture any spills. Pipelines can be built the same way.

    That's true.

Producers have already found a way around it.

Keystone XL at this point is only really good for Keystone XL.

I am not opposed to it, but it has gone from being a business deal to a code word.

I am willing to thank the right for ending all opposition to welfare for individuals, even if they are artificial persons, if this measure passes. They are welcome to cede any credibility regarding what the term, general welfare really means.

guess i may have my (civic) work, cut out for me.

well that would suck for the new republican controlled Congress if it was passed before they came into power, they wanted to pass it

course now, we will see how many perm jobs it really creates..... and how many trucker jobs it kills....

General Welfare of the nation never meant redistribution of what an individual earns for their labor.

so your saying it currently helps fund our railroads, but after the pipeline we will lose that revenue? do we get any money for letting them use the pipeline?

    - - - Updated - - -

yeah right, the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer, is that the "redistribution" you mean?

Do you exempt artificial persons or just not know what you are talking about, like usual?

Those are State responsibilities not federal responsibilities.

They apply to both. Inter-State highways is one example.

While Interstate Highways usually receive substantial federal funding and comply with federal standards, they are owned, built, and operated by the states in which they are located.

Is this the type of lunacy you are left with? They have no means of doing so and certainly no obligation to do so. What exactly do you have against the thousands of jobs that will be created? I was just at a metals show in Atlanta and spoke with several of the manufacturers of the pipe welding and joining equiptment that will be require and they talked of hundreds of jobs just to produce the equipment. Now throw in the pipe that has to be produced, the supports, the pumping and regulating equipment and on and on and on and on.........

The fact of the matter is you have no rational reason to oppose it do you.
