How about a different style music thread?

There’s a thread here that started out fun, but became a chore. Music threads tend to go hundreds of pages of YouTube videos without any context.

Now I wait a few days, only to find out the same poster has posted 30 videos in a row without any context.

Rules are impossible on a forum like this. If you have a song that’s important to you, post it, why it’s meaningful, give people a chance to absorb it before posting 20 more, and let someone else do the same, we may have a great discussion about songs that have personally added something to your life beyond enjoyment.

This thread will go nowhere, I’m sure. I’m just a voice chiming in that I can’t learn why music is important to you, if you only post 20 songs in 20 minutes without any context.

    Montgomery Gentry..."speed".

A song about closing one door to open another.

Sorry I don't know how to post videos from a smartphone. I just figured out how to link to an article.

I did not even know they were still around. I checked out some of their other newer material and it was not near as good as that song in my opinion.

    Thank you for posting it

Ok, here's another one. At the moment this song seems somewhat transcendental well beyond something going on between Lindsey and Stevie. Violations of social contracts between the people of the United States and the Government of the US that has given rise to nationalism and even Trumpism seems not too farfetched to me.....

I'm not usually a fan of 'soft' country, but this song .. to my ears, is stunning.

It resonates even more on a background of working with human frailty .. given this is essentially an ode to addiction.

Having a bit of fun with you with this post @Curious Always by letting my explanation of this song hang a minute or two.

This piece of art has meaning to me because it is pretty close to where me and my gal were when this song somehow came to my attention in 2014, ev3n though it was released in 2011. We went on to split that year, and I was haunted by the thought that either of us would ever become to one another just Somebody that we used to know.....

That is beautiful. I’ve started following him on Az music. I can’t wait to listen to more.

Wow. This song has some deep personal meaning to me. I stopped talking to my BFF a few years ago. He sent me a heart filled letter with apologies and promises of change. When we reconnected, he played this for me.

The friendship is now over, but this song reminds me of him. Thank you for sharing.

@Crank… even though it’s newer, this song brings up a ton of old memories for me.

This one resonates in a primal and personal way. While I'm not especially Viking (10% Scando or something .. haha), there's a universal connection in northern-derived peoples, to essential northern culture. Whether Native American, Saami, Norse, or Mongolian - or even just plain old Northern European. Even includes my favourite artifact of northern music, throat singing! I also think this is beautifully filmed, and the inclusion of "stepping out the runes" in a genuine ancient place of worship, is rather powerful. Anyway, it always makes me feel very calm and centred.

PS: If you're one of those groinks who think white people have no culture, pretend you didn't see this.

See now while that was lovely, I'm a yuge JD fan. Imma have to hold back on my praise a bit for that reason.

The inclusion of Dolly upped the quality, of course!

It's very beautiful - plus has that extra depth for anyone who's battled addiction, or is around it enough to totally 'get' the lyrics.

His voice is spectacular though, isn't it. Listen to "Otherside"

I cried when he died. He was bipolar, like me. His song about bipolar is called Looking For Space. It’s basically my life’s theme song. This compilation song is a beautiful tribute to all three artists.

I love this kind of music. Cirque du Soleil uses this style music in some of their shows. I love white people folk music. If there’s a polka, I’ll get up and pretend I know how to dance Polish. Same for Irish music… I saw Tommy Makem in concert in the 90s.

Interesting. Even as a lifelong fan, I didn't know that about him! I was aware he wasn't always the nicest human being, but hey ... you get that with entertainers.

    I cried too, meantime. Profusely.

Me too, even though I'm not super white :p

Love a bit of celtic, a good piper, etc etc. The Lone Piper at the Queen's funeral did me well in :(

He still feels connected to you maybe. We're all wired differently by just enough that breathing isn't always enough.

    Speaking of which,

another fave of mine for obvious reasons, I think, but maybe not, I've loved this from its first note!!! Well, riff or rhythm hook would be more accurate....

That song just took me way back in the day. I'm thinking I first heard that about 20 years ago and it's been about that long since I've heard it again
