    I'm Canadian.

If we are invaded by the Chinese, how do you explain the low spread of the virus in Canada, which is a quarter of that in US?

And on the subject of the travel ban with China imposed by Trump, we all agree today that it was totally useless.

    No ?

Rational folks can acknowledge that, amidst the alarms of epidemiologists, the political impotence in confronting the imminent pandemic and the failure to test in timely fashion contributed significantly to the current plight of the U.S.

Fantasizing that it was "under control" and that it was a "problem that's going to go away," and that "the people are getting better, they're all getting better!" were lies with predictable consequences.

Millions of Americans will be infected by the coronavirus and 100,000 to 200,000 will die, the U.S. government's top infectious-disease expert warned Sunday...

The dire prediction came from Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

    https://ktla.com/news/coronavirus/dr-fauci-predicts-100k-to-200k-u-s-deaths-in-coronavirus-pandemic/

The blunt assessment stands in stark contrast to the Pollyannish bullshit that has been spouted by some politicians with no medical expertise or capacity to listen to those who have it:

It's "under control!", a "problem that's going to go away!" because "the people are getting better, they're all getting better!" - blatant lies with predictable, tragic consequences.

Experts say if Trump had not acted, it would have been much worse here. Every city would look like NY now.

Democrats view everything through the lens of political correctness. It doesn't allow them to see things as they really are.

With that logic one might wonder - what’s the point of quarantine then? The virus already spread.

As usual, you don't have a clue what you’re talking about. I told you where you could find the quote.

It’s all over the internet. Only a clown would deny it.

Quote him saying that and provide a link. Just because he used the word xenophobia doesn’t mean he said the travel ban from China was xenophobic.

You guys believe the RW echo chamber headlines and assume they accurately reflect what someone said. They don’t. It would be like saying that Trump claimed all nazis were “good people”.

No. Even Hillary's lover, Fauci said the most consequential action was banning flights of foreigners to and from China

30 miles from Vancouver International Airport to Blaine Washington. 100 cases / 6 dead in podunk Blaine. British Columbia and Alberta have 500 - 999 cases each, then zilch until Ontario. As I said, Chinese flew into Vancouver and crossed over into the US. Once in the US, they could go anywhere in the US.

Trump got the border right and just about everything else wrong. Not a very good batting average. People will forgive the policy zigzags, testing failures, and lack of PPE for health care providers if we don't have a lot of deaths. But he has to start getting it right, and stop speculating about getting the economy rolling when people are getting sicker.

When some people's only "defense" of Trump revolves around repeating Discredited (and Uttertly Debunked) RW Mischacterizations of Biden's comments, one can only conclude that there is no other way to "defend" Trump.

    I have a phone - I don’t know how to
link. It’s possible to Google it and get dozens of sites.

On 1/31/20, Trump announced the travel ban from China. On 2/1/20, Biden addressed the ban and said this is no time for Trump’s racism and xenophobia.

    Well,
The lefties are still complaining that Trump did not ban some flights from China.
The lefties are complaining that Trump is a racist because he banned some flights from China.
The lefties are complaining that Trump is not keeping the public informed.
The lefties are complaining that Trump is grabbing all the airtime by giving nightly updates.

Starting to understand who the disgruntled are?

In fact, it was the only action Trump took after underestimating the virus for two weeks. No wonder Fauci thinks this is a big deal.

When Trump imposed the travel ban, Canada was already in general quarantine.

I won't comment on any of the other complaints except for this one.

How could Trump properly inform the public of the risk when he didn't believe it himself?

For two weeks, he repeated in every possible media that the virus wasn't a serious threat and that it could miraculously disappear.

The overall economy is more important than the extreme minority of the country getting sick, if you really want to get real. Not EVERYONE will get seriously sick or die. But everyone is suffering financially, some who are losing their livelihood and businesses. There are so many people who have it, got over it and barely missed a beat since it’s been spreading all around our country since December. There are so many untested people that are simply experiencing a typical case of the flu or just the sniffles. It’s simple math, figuring millions upon millions have caught it long before everything started getting crazy.

Hypothetically saving 20-30k people isn’t worth destroying the financial well being of 90% of the country, not to mention the implications on the global economy. What kind of life will those saved have if they have no money?

You don't know what Trump did or did not believe. Trump's job is to keep people as calm as possible and as you can see right here what happens when people panic, they become irrational.
Living in Canada this does not affect you so stay calm as you have a national healthcare program that is fully equipped to take care of you during a pandemic.

Dr. Fauci's estimate that 100-200,000 Americans will die from the new Coronavirus might prove either optimistic or pessimistic, but I have not seen any expert imagine that the overall death rate from the virus (even with the measures the US is taking, much less without them) would be as low as 20-30,000. In fact, my best guess is that the US will show 20,000 deaths despite the measures being taken just by the end of April. In any case, without those measures, the 1-2 million Americans dying from the virus would indeed become a lot more likely.

You can't use that ridiculous argument to justify all the lies Trump's been spreading about the corona virus.

By the way, in two weeks, everyone goes back to work.

    Isn't that right?

    Yes.

Canadians decided to have universal health care... 70 years ago.

There's no way I'm going to go bankrupt if I get sick.

    That's real socialism.
