If we impose real, measurable penalties for people who DON'T take personal responsibility for themselves, then they will be forced to. Otherwise, you're right. If we just let people slop along making a ruin out of their own lives, and let it ruin everyone else's lives, too, then we will have "Hell on Earth". In fact, more and more, that's what we are having right now.
And, you have been conditioned to believe that irresponsible people are not the ones who cause their own failures in life. But that's a part of what's involved in the nature of freedom, and we do still live in a mostly free country, guaranteed by our Constitution. Each of us has the freedom to do whatever we like within the framework of the law, and if we choose to fail because of our own stupidity, lethargy, or recklessness, then that's on us!
Simplistic? How complicated does an American's concept of FREEDOM need to be? Freedom to do what you want to do, achieving what you want to achieve, choosing your own affiliations, participations, and amusements should belong to the individual citizen. Except for the necessity to do everything in life within the constraint of law and order, why should our lives have to be any more complicated by government! Each of us should determine what we WANT to do, and then to do it! And a person chooses to throw life away and be a failure, then that's OK, too -- but the responsibility belongs to that person. Gee! It actually is simple.
Yes, the fact that you think we are free to control our own destinies is a result of an overly simplistic worldview.
You think we are in hell because of national debt......and we were in heaven when it was less....? The kind / intelligent nation to the North seems to have same issue, as does practically every other nation.
We ended up here because both parties have learned that you can stay in office by buying votes. The Democrats buy more votes than the Republicans and are far more open to groups that support perversion. The current Democrat unlimited support for transsexualism, which effects only a tiny portion of the population is a prime example. Should we treat true transsexuals with respect and dignity? Absolutely! Should we support efforts to confuse young children and hide treatments from parents? Absolutely not! Should we support transmen participation in women's sports? NO! Yet if you oppose either of those things, your are a "transphobe" and a "bigot." In other words if you don't support the Democrats current agenda, you are a bad person who should be canceled.
I feel bad for you if you live in a country where you don't have the freedom, guaranteed simply but thoroughly by its constitution, that allows you to control your own destiny. That being the case, and if freedom to live life as you wish it is important to you, I suggest that you move out of whatever country you're in, and never go back!
I live in reality. I'm not moving anywhere, I've done fine in life. I am just not going to pretend that everyone has equal opportunity here or anywhere else either.
Suit yourself, Phan! Those who look hard enough for "victimhood" are always sure to find it, but, happy hunting anyway.
Like I said, i'm not a victim. I'm doing fine. I was lucky enough to be born a white man in the United States. Even being born into a poor family wasn't as bad for me as it could have been.
We are a government who does too much. End this, end that, yada yada yada. We refuse to accept the limits of our power. We also never end a bad idea once it gets its own acronym.
The media dictates how people will vote, people feel it is their own opinion and pride themselves on running the country but we don't. We didn't decide to expand NATO at all, let alone to go against Russia's desire to survive, by moving NATO weapons into Ukraine, someone else made those decisions. The media might say the whole US population wants war with Russia, but look down a few threads on this Opinion Polls forum and the poll there has zero in favor of War with Russia as a desirable objective for 2024.
People talk about the Constitution but go against all of our history. What does the Monroe Doctrine we enforce in our hemisphere say? It says any more colonies anyone sets up here will be regarded as a hostile act. And it says we will not interfere in European wars.
For a start, the USA was never heaven and nor is it now hell. There are plenty of positives that helped the USA become what it is today and plenty of literally first-world problems as a result, but none of the is unique to the US. Most people would take American "poverty" over "average" in a lot of other countries (indeed, many literally try to, hence many of the immigration problems). I think the root cause of most national debts boils down to envy. While the resources and stability allows people to become comfortable and wealthy, everyone wants to be doing as well (or a little better) than everyone else. If your neighbour gets a new car, you want a new car. If your neighbour gets three new cars, a Harley and a boat, you want that too. It's kind of how the idea of the American Dream got corrupted in to, and rather than everyone wanting to be comfortable, everyone wanted to be above average (with failing education meaning they didn't understand the problem with that ). We see a lot of the same issues across Western Europe too, with some of the same consequences (we're hardly short of national and personal debts ourselves), but it does seem that the US has particularly strong cultural issues behind it.
Compound Interest over time and a BigMedia that is controlled by the same people who control the BigBanks. The people who control BigMedia are Neo-Malthusian in their economic theory so...... ... they are out to sterilize and depopulate Americans.... partly in order to save trees and grass and the environment in general...... The Bill Gates "Innovating to zero" lecture is how complex and deep seated this idea is among the people who buy themselves political leaders not long after they get elected...... their control over BigMedia is their biggest stick in many ways. The Neo-Malthusians who control BigMedia will never promote an idea like...... Could a real estate boom plus better Fed policy pay off USA national debt? BigMedia will never let most people know that our economy is actually a fraction of what it easily could have been..... http://www.politicalforum.com/index...from-the-ottawa-swamp.551407/#post-1070261992 Can we learn about the Washington Swamp from the Ottawa Swamp?
