I am running a research lab at a university. After research labs were closed for 2 months, the administration is now allowing reopening of labs with certain safety rules and restrictions. For example no more than two people in a lab at a time, wearing of face masks etc.

Now, as the research advisor, who is ultimately responsible for the safety of my graduate students, I have to have a plan how to reopen, and how to keep students safe, in addition to the university guidelines. My worst nightmare is to have an outbreak starting in my lab.

For you business owners out there: What are your plans after reopening for keeping employees and customers safe? This is an important decision, not only in light of personal tragedy that can be avoided, but also with respect to profits. If an outbreak starts in your business, it might get closed for months, or you might lose customers if they don't perceive your business to be safe.

Me, I'll provide PPE for all of my students, with wearing face masks a requirement. I'll also go beyond the university's recommendations with regard to maximum student density in labs. I'll also encourage them to get tested, although this cannot be made mandatory. Our university is setting up a drive-through testing station on campus.
