How do you see our collective moral and ethical cup? Half full or overflowing with goodness?

I doubt that you've sold anything to anyone by making them feel stupid or telling them that they're fundamentally immoral (or if one did, I reckon they'd regret it).

So if you have identified that your strategy only makes them "run for the hills" rather than actually improving, what makes you think it is a good idea to keep doing it? Indeed, my entire point is that if your strategy makes people run for the hills, not only does your strategy not work, it makes other strategies less likely to work.

What exactly is it you intend for the lurker to take away?

I think that even within our own country morals are extremly different. The simple debate around who deserves healthcare in America proves just how different moral principles are even within one country. Then we could consider abortion. Or capital punishment.

No worldwide morals and ethics are not even close to universal or harmonious.

Jesus was murdered because he threatened the ruling class. Religion except as an instrument of the political class had nothing to do with his murder.

They actually are 75% homogenous. That is science.

The U.S., I will agree, is particularly backwards for some reason.

It may have to do with the stupid 2 party system.

IOW, it was all about religions place as either leader or follower. The King won.

Force over morality. The Noble Lie lives on.

    Pretty well, yes.

We are one species; give or take.

Then I would generally agree. We, taken as a whole, are progressing in what I see as a forward direction. Something on a 10 steps forward, 9 steps back kinda scale.

No, they aren't. You would probably face culture shock in either Compton or Nashville. I live in Phoenix, and the amount of open racism I observe daily is something that would be unthinkable in Portland or Boston.

I would not argue against the notion that the U.S. in particular is not functioning well, racism wise.

Americans are quite obtuse in this, and I do not mean just the white Americans. All Americans.

African American should be American African.

All of the Americas have a history of a racial caste system, the echoes of which are still felt all around the two continents.

But let's not forget my primary point, moral differences between cultures don't just exist, they're often mutually incompatible.

If this is what you are referring to from the talk it doesn't prove the 70% of morals are common among all humanity. 70% of statement heard on Ted isn't quite proof that 75% of morals are homogenous..

" The first one is harm/care. We're all mammals here, we all have a lot of neural and hormonal programming that makes us really bond with others, care for others, feel compassion for others, especially the weak and vulnerable. It gives us very strong feelings about those who cause harm. This moral foundation underlies about 70 percent of the moral statements I've heard here at TED."

Oh my. You forgot where the underground railroad popped up. Canada.

As to your last. Give an example so that I know what you mean.

The survey done by the author was international. If you have anything that changes that stat, I will be happy to have a look.

All religions have some kind of reciprocity rule and that put's us even higher that 70%.

If you include atheists and other non-believers who also use reciprocity as fair play, then you are almost at 100%.

I think they are in the sense that all religions are good for their in group but are hell on the out groups.

Most of us use some kind of Golden Rule or reciprocity rule as our main moral guide, so to say that there is a lot of differences within our single species, would be false.
