    Today I read this article:

Off-duty agent responded to school shooting: "I asked my barber if he had a gun", Alex Sundby

My first thought reading this article was, this is a situation where gun control laws could prevent someone from being able to help in an emergency situation.

Take waiting period laws, as just one example. The barber would not be able to hand his gun to an off-duty police officer who needed to use it.

The barber himself probably did not have a lot of experience to be rushing into an active crime shooting situation. He may have been older, slow on his feet. He didn't want to go into that situation himself and risk his life (to speak nothing of the potential legal risks).

    from the article:

Jacob Albarado was in his barber's chair when both men got text messages about the shooting unfolding at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, last week.
"I asked my barber if he had a gun," Albarado, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent, told CBS News on Wednesday. He had attended an awards ceremony at the school earlier that morning and was off duty, with his weapon at home.
The barber did have a gun.

During the Uvalde shooting, an off-duty federal agent's wife texted him for help. "I asked my barber if he had a gun," he said. - CBS News, June 1, 2022

The article has a video of him being interviewed too.

Fortunately in this case, there were other police officers who had already arrived at the scene. So this off-duty border agent did not need to be there. But there could be a situation where this could mean the difference between life and death, if it was the only person who could respond in time and the situation was urgent.

He should have had his weapon in his vehicle while he was at the school house and re-holstered after he left. I bet he won't make that mistake again.
