The people who elected Trump were not true conservatives, far from it, and the answer to the question is complicated.

Trump was elected by disgruntled blue collar workers, miners, and small farmers who, rather accept the responsibility for their own lives, blamed the government for all their ills. Anarchists, under the guise of "draining the swamp," who wanted chaos in Washington by removing political leadership, also supported Trump. Trump got more support from non-college educated voters than any other candidate in American history. A true conservative, generally speaking, is well-educated.

Trump courted Steve Bannon, an avowed white nationalist. Since there is not a whole lot of difference between a white nationalist and white supremacist, Trump also got the support of white supremacists, along with members of the KKK and neo-Nazi organizations. It didn't matter if Trump agreed with those people. The point is, his campaign rhetoric attracted white supremacists, KKK, and neo-Nazis. Indeed, after Charlottesville, Trump sided with those folks and earned a "thank you" from a former imperial wizard, David Duke.

Trump was elected by 25% of the electorate because 90 million Americans had grown apathetic and stayed home on Election Day. Many of those Americans were true conservatives. They had no one to vote for. The GOP had abandoned the true, moderate conservative. That is still true today as the Republican Congress is doing its level best to pass a law that will add between 1.5 and 1.7 trillion dollars to the National Debt.

Trump was aided by a four-month, daily barrage of anti-Clinton leaks provided by the Russians, courtesy of WikiLeaks, and Comey's re-opening of the private server investigation eleven days before the election.

Trump was also aided by the catastrophic decision by the Democrats who nominated Hillary Clinton, a candidate with enough baggage to fill a moving van.

Trump was so bad as a candidate that he lost the popular vote to Clinton by nearly three million votes. Now that is bad.

That is how Trump was elected.

What happened was trump convinced a lot of people that MSM was all fake news. As a result a lot of people started seeking out alternative news outlets 'to get the straight story' without realizing they were listening to news published by Putin Publishing. The more news listened to that wasn't MSM the more the people were being filled with lies. They were told often enough that an apple was a banana to the point they believed it. That's how we got trump.

Trump was elected by people that were ticked about Democrats running ops (Fast and Furious) that attempted to undermine the 2nd amendment. Trump was elected by people that were ticked off by a Democrat prez calling the police "stupid." Trump was elected by people that were ticked off by Democrats making it legal for your twelve year old daughter to share a washroom with a tranny. Trump was elected by people that were ticked off by an administration that couldn't get the economy to stagger up to 3% for any of the last 8 years. Trump was elected by people that had a mountainous stack of reasons to elect Trump. Try to keep up.

The fat lady has sung. Hillary lost. Acceptance is the answer to your problem. Establishment politicians from both parties have lied for years and have been rejected. (or taught a lesson ). Take a vacation and maybe you will relieve some of that stress. He's not going to be impeached. Live with it as he has at least 4 more years. Russian collusion is a delusion.

I mostly agree, but I don't think it was apathy that kept so many voters at home. It was a combination of the polls that put Hillary's likelihood of victory at such a high probability (i.e., "my vote against Trump isn't necessary") and all the conspiracy theory / fake news that hammered home the idea that Hillary is a criminal. I opposed Hillary on policy issues, but FFS I know she isn't a criminal. Many people were disgusted by Trump but they didn't want to vote for the supposedly "corrupt" alternative. So they stayed home.

I voted third party and if more voters had the balls to do it we'd have a respectable and competent president right now.

Trump was elected by a little majority of 376,000 voters in four states:

    Florida: + 120,000
    North Carolina: + 177,000
    Michigan: + 11,000
    Pennsylvania: + 68,000

Combined, these four states gave him 80 electoral college... and the victory.

It makes him the President elected by the least people in US history.

It was the public throwing a hand grenade at Washington for a variety of reasons. It did its job, Washington is a mess right now. A good shake-up is good now and then to wake us up. I see a massive political movement looming on the horizon, most likely a Liberal one.

I can see that you don't have a clue about what a modern "conservative" is.

Take a look at the platforms and planks of the FDR and Kennedy Democrats and there you have a modern conservative.

The people who voted for Trump are all true conservatives who are sick and tired of the same old same old from both parties. Both parties collude with each other to favor open borders and a colonial America used to dump cheap foreign goods while turning a blind eye to the economic war against the middle class and blue collar American workers.

The Democrats are busy protecting pedophiles and transvestites and government unions and hollywood elites to bother, and the Republicans make promises and are never heard from again - until the next election rolls around.

Donald Trump came along and promised to "build a wall" and to bring back jobs - a mantra neither party could be bothered to support.

A year later and Donald Trump is still the only hope out there - while both parties do everything in their power to marginalize Trump and alienate the average American citizen. Both parties have forgotten what Trump has embraced and that is economic security for all Americans.

    How?

Take a corrupt political party that is obsessed with identity politics and victimhood, add a corrupt, dishonest woman who, if not for the dude she married would be teaching political science at a community college in the midwest, toss in a leftist media who lives in a liberal/progressive/socialist echo chamber, add a former president who led more by being a cult-type figure to his minions rather than having sound policies...

    And you get a Trump.

Trump was elected with a very slim majority split into just 4 states.

And a vote deficit of at least 3 million.

If the Electoral College didn't exist, Trump would have had no chance.

    Good stuff, Shanks

The dummies and deplorables really took care of us this time, eh.

The maniac-in-chief will likely be a one-termer, tho, since the incompetent gop will eventually tank the economy (again) with their misguided, horrible economic policies.

Assuming, of course, Trumplov can survive THE HEAT that Muell's and the boys will surely be throwing his way... 8)

We were asked why he won, not why he lost! If there is any doubt on how the game is going, I always look at the scoreboard.

Obama was black? You'd never know it by the way he never did anything to improve their lives and end inner city violence.

I'm sure he appreciated all the votes though.

    Agreed.

Put his poor performance invalidates the great theory that the people wanted to get rid of corruption or liberal values.

Anyway, we see it well with the Trump's approval rating....

Granted Trump was a very imperfect and flawed candidate:

    - pro-America vs globalist
    - America first vs Americans are deplorables
    - Pro working people vs pro-outsourcing
    - Pro law and order vs pro-Open borders
    - Pro police vs pro-thugs
    - Pro middle class vs pro-Washington swamp, donors, lobbyists

Still wondering how imperfect flawed candidate Trump became president Donald J. Trump wiping the floor with both parties and dozens of "qualified" career politicians on both sides of the aisle? If you still don't understand, you never will
