If the ballots get lost in delivery, they can be resent. This is one of the built-in safeguards. If a few ballots get lost, it may be that none of the recipients cared to vote anyway, and will not request replacements. But if massive numbers of ballots go missing, the number of requests will exceed the known rate of lost mail. It will raise a red flag.

And I disagree about the fraud. The more people that touch a ballot, the less likelihood of fraud. Bureaucracy is redundant and slow, precisely for this reason. The more checkpoints along the way, the less chance someone can cheat.

Grocery stores require masks. Florida's idiot-governor won't require them in voting places. Many will die now that Trump has convinced his voters (most of them seniors) to not trust the system of voting they've been using for decades. But Trump considers seniors "disposable" anyway, so ...

When you vote in person, virtually none of that happens. This election is going to be a disaster with all the mail in ballots.

Our state will most likely will require masks or at least the local precincts will. I intend to wear one and maintain my distance whatever their rules

We don't use voting machines here. Florida had them one year. Hackers paradise...

I'm sure some local precincts will "require" them. But the moron of a governor signed an executive order, in preparation for voting to start, that does not allow any type of penalization for anybody who refuses to use one. So the board of elections can put up signs about wearing a mask, but they can't enforce it.

Perhaps, but even ignoring the pandemic, I think people have the right to determine how they vote in their states. It's very popular as evidenced by turnout in states that have been doing this for years.

With several states doing this for the first time at this level, there may be some unforeseen irregularities, but I don't expect a disaster.

From what I've read, most states follow similar procedures. I posted a link to Hawaii's method which looks foolproof.

They don't have anyone in Florida who knew how to debug them?

They have that right in our state. Apparently no one on the left is bothered about the poor performance of mail in voting.

I'm talking about mailing unsolicited ballots, like Utah, Hawaii and a few other states. I don't know why your state has issues, but people generally like mail voting where it is used heavily or exclusively.

I misunderstood you. What do you mean by "poor performance?"

There have been several links about problems with mail in voting. In one, NPR found that over a half million votes were rejected in the 2020 primaries.

Okay. I thought you were referring to your state.

There will be kinks in the system. Do you have a link? There are various reasons for rejection.

It is somewhere in this thread or you could try googling it. I had no trouble finding it.

Common sense indicates that Trump is wrong, there has never been any proof of massive voter fraud via mail-in ballots, and he's using it as an excuse to contest the election results because he's so far behind in the polls.

Common sense would look back at any era in Trump's life and see that he cheats at pretty much everything.

It does not have to be just fraudulent ballots. There have been numerous reports of mail in ballots being thrown in the trash or declared invalid.

Massive? Really? Dozens of instances? Thousands of votes?

Trump is working hard to blow this put of proportion so that he can contest the election results. His supporters are helping him by refusing to see the lie.

Human error. Can't get around it. Lots of things get thrown out by mistake. I found my wallet in the kitchen trash can one time. If I hadn't found it, I would simply get replacement ID and credit cards. They do the same with undelivered ballots.

    One by one:

Pjmedia doesn't say why the ballots could not be delivered, but reading between the lines, I suspect that many registered voters have relocated and did not re-register. That's on the voters. That isn't fraud. Also, this is a very unreliable information source:

    https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/pj-media/

The second article is about ballots that were sent in too late. That's on the voters. That isn't fraud.

The third article is about thousands of first-time mail-in voters who couldn't follow simple instructions. From the article:

"Most absentee or mail-in ballots are rejected because required signatures are missing or don't match the one on record, or because the ballot arrives too late."

That's on the voters. That isn't fraud. One can hope that voters will do a better job of it in the main event, using lessons learned in the primaries.

Good grief. What a fantasy you've spun up. Armed gangs demanding to "supervise" our votes? Do you really believe that could happen on a massive or widespread scale? If so, can I please have some of whatever you've been smoking?

    :eyepopping:

Think about it logically, as if you were leading one of those "gangs." Whose homes would you invade? Would you use the voter registration rolls and drop in on all registered Democrats or Republicans? And how would you know if the people you're crashing in on aren't armed? Even this liberal old woman owns a gun, so good luck with that.

Just yesterday they found a box of completed mail in ballots voting for Trump in one Philadelphia election office. These votes were not going to be counted. That is one box. How many others are there? Massive numbers, only a few? The point is neither you nor I nor anyone else can say that there isn't fraud. Mail in doesn't necessarily cause fraud. It just makes fraud really easy. Be prepared for a supreme court confirmation of the election. Sorry.
