How many members would like a firearms discussion area

I've also taught quite a few people how to shoot and have run across more than one person who had natural shooting abilities.
I usually start them out with .22s & then work up.
I found that a good test to tell if a student is flinching or not is to load a spent case into the chamber without telling the student flinches.

 

I'm not claiming natural shooting abilities; I'm pointing out that qualification standards were fairly low.

 

Yes, generally speaking, you're right.
That would depend on the individual, his MOS, Security Clearance, who you know, your rank etc.
For example when I was stateside at Ft. Bragg, I managed to round up some buddies, take a case of beer, check out various weapons including M-79s & either go to the range or shoot up abandoned buildings on base. Oh to be young, healthy & stupid again.

 

Actually, my best students were Women, ages 25 and up, no nonsense serious shooters, and many went on to competition shooting.
There were enough serious Military shooters too.

 

I'm not surprised that some of your best students were women. If I understand correctly, many more women are buying firearms than ever before just as gun manufacturers are making pistols in feminine colors.
I would advise against buying a pink pistol because it would seem to diminish its resale value.

To qualify, it was not so common for a Male civilian Instructor to have female students, however, I had a platinum reputation as an Instructor, and my students surpassed me, a source of pride when I could actually say,

" The student has become the Master !"

There is a dynamic between students and Teachers which is impossible for most outsiders to understand, when your students credit your teaching skills to it's true influence and value, that is what makes a teachers sacrifice meritorious, nothing else matters or equals this conclusion or makes that calling worth while.

I think with 31 pages, this thread has become a firearms discussion area, alongside any other thread with a remotely accurate title including the words 'gun' or 'firearm' or 'NRA' or 'rifle'. Not a fan of 150 subforums or most of the divisions we already have. Just post the friggin thread and people will come....

 

Yes I think 31 pages of obsession with killing is probably indicative of an obsession to the rest of the civilised world would prefer not to indulge ...... thankfully

It has never been about "killing", it has always been about personal defense and a situation often resolved without firing a shot or hurting anyone.

Also, the OP asked if people would like to see a section devoted to "Firearms" the technical side, not about "killing" or Gun Control, more about models, calibers, revolvers v autoloaders, Glock compared to Xx, how to, repairs, sighting in, web sites etc....

There would be some British support for it. I know plenty of folk with big guns that love shooting small birds. A forum to allow them to refer to their kills would be great! Give em a chance.

 

I loved shooting in Somerset. Did it 5 years in a row when my father was still alive. I was using a pair of 28 G Ruger shotguns. Hardly big guns. Big gun would say be a 105 Smoothbore on a MI Abrams.

 

You can get pheasant much cheaper in Tescos mind you. They aren't full of shot either.

The population is deliberately increased to provide for profit opportunity. What gets me most about British hunters is that they can't even be arsed to walk. They get tractored in to their kill zone and then the local peasants simply scare pheasants their way. Should be a law against lazy hunting at least!

I shot lots of Guinea hens and doves and I can only recall getting a pellet of shot perhaps once....

It sure takes a City slicker to not know the difference between wild game and store bought, wild game is way better......
Even domestic chicken gone wild taste way better.
