"“Out of every dollar that I earn, how much do you think that I deserve to keep?”

    Her response?
“I’ll put it this way. You don’t deserve to keep all of it and it’s not a question of deserving because what government is, is those things that we decide to do together. And there are many things that we decide to do together like have our national security. Like have police and fire. What about the people that work at the National Institutes of Health who are looking for a cure for cancer?”

She answered the question by not answering the question. Her answer was, as much as we want.

Now, I'm curious. How much to you think you should be allowed to keep. Assume you're a family of three, earning $175,000 a year. How much should you be allowed by our ever gracious government to keep for your family?

I am not simply asking about income tax, and FICA tax, and all the other federal taxes but also the state taxes and the county taxes and the city taxes and the special improvement district taxes and the school taxes and so forth. Also consider as taxes the money you are required to spend against your will. You know, the extra $1,500 to buy a new car and the extra $5,000 for the house you want to buy, and all the other things you have to pay by government edict.

Now, the question is, of the money you earn, how much, what percentage, do you have a right to keep?

The problem I have with her answer is that she answered it.
She should have skipped the first part, stuck with the second, and left it at that.
    "It isn't about deserving."
    That is the correct answer.

Of course you only deserve to keep whatever is left after our wise government overlords have taken their cut. After all, we live to serve the state.

    People actually believe that? :puke:
