Our differences are irreconcilable. The only peaceful solution is a negotiated divorce. The less peaceful solution is an authoritarianism of the left or right. You won't preserve the union any other way than by force.

 

I'm sure we all need a reset. Biden's speech struck many, and even some on the Left were concerned that the theme of it was that this is a two party system, Democrats and Terrorists. Now what I did see that I found encouraging was more moderate sensible voices in the middle speaking up and being heard, on both sides.

And of course self-reflection is important for all. Look over the topics from the folks on the Left on this board, there are a handful desperately working to keep this a battle against Trump, when Trump is clearly not the future of the GOP. I appreciate the good things that he did, but, this has always been about us, not him, and for one thing, he's just too old. We have some very strong guys coming up and it's time for the folks the age of Biden/Pelosi/Trump and so, to pass the torch.

It's time to look forward and press forward.

As a retired high school history teacher, I can assure you students notice race.

Students benefit from exploring racial and ethnic differences. That's when they learn racism is dumb.

 

Now find me racism on the right that even approximates the rank nastiness that is the 1619 project, and critical race theory.

 

Then it won't be peaceful unless you move to another country.

 

Our differences are only irreconcilable if we want them to be. We are no more different from each other than the protestants and catholics in Northern Ireland during the times of the troubles. They learned to continue living with each other, after the extremists were routed out. That's what both sides will have to do: Get rid of their extremists. Of course, if half the country listens to Rachel Maddow or Tucker Carlson, there is no chance. These news shows and internet politics sites are addictive, that's why people keep going back clicking on them, and how the hate for each other is formented, spread and eventually becomes set in stone. However, before people will start laying off these destructive news watching/internet browsing habits, there probably has to be some form of watershed moment, that exposes those that profit from pitting us against each other.

Teachers don’t see everything in child’s life. None of my kids see race and they all readily play with children of other races. Almost all cartoons that children watch have characters that are drastically different from each other (Shrek, Finding Nemo, Hotel Transylvania, to name a few) and these characters are getting along with a happy ending. There is no reason for a child to think these differences mean anything unless an adult specifically says so.
Besides, you worked in high school, where kids are in their final stage of their childhood, not at the beginning. We’ve seen lots of headlines about kids under 10 being asked how their whiteness affects their lives, which is just beyond absurd and forces a child to write something that an adult would consider offensive.
You have two kids of different races playing in a playground. Then you give them such exercises where a black kid is being told they will always suffer at the hand of a white man, while telling the white one that they will always oppress their black friends when they grow up. How can you expect those two kids to have a normal relationship after that?

In a university, maybe. You force little kids to see race in everything and you will raise a generation of racists.

I think you misunderstand MLK quote about skin color and character. He was discussing judging people as individuals not as parts of groups. Every judgement you have made so far deals with judging groups with stereotypes.

I don't understand "work not being rewarded" Work is usually rewarded and no one is calling for an end to that.

I just read an article yesterday where the writer was saying they considered themselves to be progressives, yet were publicly shamed by their own counterparts for advocating school reopening.
Almost every grievance about woke on this board results in some posters posting pictures of Trump.
If you oppose anything they don’t approve - you are a Trump supporter and are on far-right.

I cannot see how progressives can hope for any reconciliation when they themselves readily eat their own for any deviation. We already see the effects - the mass migration, treatment Manchin and Sinema get for being centrists, etc. In just one generation the ideological divide will become a geographic divide.

 

Trump tried to steal the last election and is trying to create better conditions for stealing it in 2024.

 

There is a high likelihood that Trump will be dead of natural causes in this decade.
You, people, make it sound like he is going to take over and rule for a century, while most rational people understand that he physically cannot be around for much longer.

 

This is hardly trying to inflame anyone. He’s pointing out truth. No one can name a single piece of legislation that separates people by race or class by republicans. Democrats are the ones doing this.
