How would you describe pregnancy?

I've noticed quite a few arguments on here describing pregnancy as an 'inconvenience'.

For both pro-choicers and pro-lifers alike, whether you have experienced pregnancy or not, from what you have seen your friends family or significant other go through with pregnancy and childbirth, how would YOU describe it?

I have yet to experience pregnancy myself, but from what I hear from my friends and family it's not fun. And especially coming close to the last month or two they would constantly be saying, "I just want this kid out of me!" I recently finished going through college and we had two pregnant girls in class. Both were at the end of their 3rd trimesters and constantly moaning and groaning about it, just wanting labor to happen and the birthing process to start so they could be done.

Another older woman who joined our class later was also pregnant with her third child. Hers became a high risk pregnancy when she went into labor a month early and had to have an emergency C-section. A few days after that her stitches ripped and her surgery wound reopened. She was at very high risk for infection. She said it was not a good time at all. But she was willing to go through it and that's all that mattered to me. That she consented to it and was willing to take the risk. Would you describe her experience with this pregnancy as one of 'inconvenience'?

Obviously everyone's experience is different, some women have high risk pregnancies and some have very easy pregnancies with few or no serious symptoms.

Is pregnancy and childbirth just a mere inconvenience to you? Or do you think it's more than that? Is it really ok to broadly describe all pregnancies, of which are all very, very different and may drastically change at any time, as 'inconvenient'?

I will define convenience and inconvenience here as well so you may see if these words are a good or bad description for yours or your friend's/family's/S.O.'s pregnancy and childbirth or for every woman's pregnancy in general.

I loved being pregnant...........

 

That's great. Would you care to share your experience in more detail though? What was great about it? Were there any downsides? Mild 'inconveniences' if you will or no downsides at all?

 

My pregnancies were easy.. I was healthy and active and only gained 24 pounds..

At the end when you get real big.. one gets tired easily and you may have some swelling of the feet unless you walk alot.

In the second trimester of my last pregnancy I had migraines.. so that wasn't pleasant.

Another woman may have a very different experience based on her health, diet, exercise ...

 

I see. Overall though would you ever describe your pregnancies as an 'inconvenience'? This is often a term lifers use to describe pregnancy when a woman wants to abort. Would you generalize all pregnancies as an inconvenience?

Also I don't think I ever see you in the abortion forum Margot, I usually catch you in the religion forum, so I don't really know where you even stand on this subject. =P

What does that mean? Does that mean that YOU think pregnancy is blissful? LOLOLOLOLOL! I can't imagine you would have nerve enough to even comment on this topic. It does however, indicate that you talk without knowing what you are talking about.

Well you misunderstand a lot here from what I see.

 

LOL, if pregnancy were like that, there would be no abortions, and the market for birth control would disappear. Now tell me what a delightfully fun time childbirth will be.

Can you please elaborate why you have described pregnancy this way? Is this from personal experience with your own pregnancy(ies)?

I describe pregnancy as something which will never happen to me - but I am still concerned about both future generations born and unborn.

 

Would you generalize all pregnancies as inconvenient? Or maybe some of them? Have you ever been one to describe pregnancy as an inconvenience for women If so, why?

Maybe. I have no idea. She just likes to make short posts and run. There's never any elaborating or any discussion to be had. Kind of sad really.

Obviously a woman who wanted to be pregnant wouldn't think of it as an inconvenience any more than a parent who loved his or her child would think the same about child rearing. Both can be burdensome, but loving parents bear those burdens gladly.

So I don't see the point of this thread...although I do have my suspicions.

 

Of course she would not........... and any woman who didn't want a child or couldn't afford to provide for a child would feel very differently.

 

I made this thread to elaborate on WHY lifers insist on referring to pregnancy as an 'inconvenience'.

What is the logical reasoning behind calling every pregnancy an inconvenience? Would you care to share your thoughts on why lifers describe pregnancy in this manner?
