How many people have been jailed for illegally owning a pistol before the age of 21? How many people have been denied their constitutional rights because of their age? I believe this is great! The 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals rules that denying anyone 18-20 years of age a pistol is a violation of their second amendment right. https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/13/politics/handgun-appeals-court/index.html unbeknownst to many, age was actually discussed by our founders in creating the second amendment. The age 16 was mentioned but ultimately age was left out. I congratulate The 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals for this ruling. Good on them! This will allow more innocent Americans to protect themselves. May our right of self defense be forever protected.
I think that states should pass a law that allows anyone to sue people who own guns or assist other people in owning a gun. The state would not stop people from owning weapons, it would be the average citizen enforcing the ban.
Is that only an age thing? A state has the ability to regulate guns. They can keep guns out of the hands of people who lack the emotional maturity to have them. The can do something that's not the lazy throw everyone in the same bucket approach.
I would like to see more states pass Constitutional Carry laws, and yes that would include 18 and over.
Please elaborate on your statement. Under what premise would you sue someone for simply owning a gun? Do you not have to prove some sort of damages to bring a lawsuit against someone or some entity?
That sounds reasonable, yes. One would think that for one party to sue another the party bringing the suit should be experience some loss or damages for the suit to be successful.
Okay so how was someone supposed to sue someone simply for owning a gun? Is it safe to assume that you don't think anyone should own guns but authority figures?
I don’t actually agree that this is a good way to deal with the problem of violence in America. I think it would be an underhanded measure designed to circumvent the constitution and past Supreme Court rulings. I thought you would realize I am poking fun.
I like the idea of guns all requiring an official owner and the official owner being civilly liable for any damages done by the gun. If somebody shoots somebody without a legal right to do so (ie, self defence) then both the shooter and the owner should be liable, unless the gun has been reported to the police as stolen. And actually, I would lean towards some lesser sort of civil responsibility on the gun owner even if it was stolen. I don't know if this is already in place, but I think that would go a long way towards reducing gun crime. Gun owners should be held to a very high level of responsibility for their gun. It would make people be more mindful with supervision of their gun, and more mindful with transfering registered ownership of guns. I also think there should be a required license to own a gun and that the test to get one should require both a test at a gun range and a background and mental health check. This should also be very stringent. Owning a gun should be a very sombre thing only very mature, responsible, able, and mentally stable people should be allowed to do. I am happy I don't live in a gun culture country, but if i did, I would want at least the above to be firmly in place.
