The president's son agreed to comply with a subpoena issued by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., according to the letter sent to the committee Tuesday, but he is demanding that the testimony be public.

The subpoena was for a closed-door deposition rather than a public hearing, sources told Fox News.

"We have seen you use closed door sessions to manipulate, even distort the facts and misinform the public. We therefore propose opening the door," Hunter's attorney Abbe Lowell wrote. "If, as you claim, your efforts are important and involve issues that Americans should know about, then let light shine on the proceedings."

Very interesting! I like the bold approach from Hunter and his lawyer(s), lets make this public! Makes you wonder if they have a "trump card" up their sleeve or if its just pure arrogance. Either way, I like the approach and now am really interested to see the showdown. I'm leaning towards Hunter's team having a "trump card" up the sleeve as I think this is too bold even for Hunter.

I agree with them to do this in public — their accusers have proven to be less than honest. While the right will still twist everything said at least the general public will have what was actually said.

Odd and numerous are the differences between this administration and the last.

Agreed. There is not many downsides to be made public, and sometimes these closed door hearings are misrepresented later by both sides, so a public hearing is welcomed by myself!
I also agree that there must be a lot of confidence on the Hunter Biden side. It will be interesting to see how Comer handles this. If he has confidence in his case, he would welcome it, but if he does not, it will be telling.
My gut instinct is that Comer is blowing smoke, and Hunter's team called him out on it, and Comer will find some way to avoid this, or hold a public hearing and look like a fool.
Interesting development, thanks for posting it!

Of course I don't know, but I have a suspicion that he is blowing smoke. I don't know what the "rules" are, but it's the first time I've heard all hearings are supposed to be behind closed doors. I smell BS.

An open door hearing means that sensitive state secrets and assets have to be protected, meaning that likely some evidence Hunter et al don't want exposed wouldn't be. The reason for the closed door is all of that evidence would have to be responded to. Legal trickery masked as PR.

Remind me if it's usually guilty or innocent people who prefer investigations to be quick and out in the open....

What nonsense! Hunter doesn't have and has never had a security clearance! NO state secrets could be revealed to him even in a closed door hearing.

The desperation on the right is truly pathetic!

There is a purpose, for those reasons you stated, to having a closed door hearing.
BUT, this does not seem to be the case as it is only testimony from Hunter Biden, so I doubt there are many government assets to protect in this hearing.
Oh yeah, there are the *whistleblowers* Comer claims to have occasionally, that turn out to be duds.................

That's because he's a criminal who didn't play by the rules.

    “I don’t recall.”

    “I can’t remember.”

“I can neither confirm nor deny.”

“I have no recollection of that.”

Hunter has begun practicing his script.

He’ll have it remembered by December.

I think it really comes down to what evidence defense attorneys believe they can have quashed. When it turns out Joe was transferring classified materials to his son to trade for bribes, I expect you'll still defend these criminals.

The analysis makes the most sense. If it wasn't for protected assets, the hearing would be public. Who knows, perhaps Comer understands the value of not totally exposing the ridiculous criminality of the Biden crime family to the public. Perhaps that's patriotic of him in his attempt to try to protect the nation from these truths.

On a side note, I can't wait for Hunter to have to describe what he had to do to get the Mayor of Moscow's wife to give him all that money.....

We will see if Comer allows a public hearing or has something to hide.

Highlighted in red: I don't know what exactly Comer is thinking, but based on the past he seems more likely to expose ridiculous criminality of the Biden family rather than keep it quiet, so I doubt that is the case. Do you really think that's Comer's line of logic?
Highlighted in blue: We will see (maybe), but there could be numerous explanations. Hunter's business partner did address this, it was an investment into the energy business. It wouldn't be unusual for investment firms to get investment money from many different sources, even foreign sources. Not excusing or defending, just pointing out that the action alone doesn't constitute anything illegal or unscrupulous, if it even happened.
I think that most of us could agree that the truth, and nothing but the whole truth, should be exposed.

I'm guessing Hunter would rather face an open hearing where each committee member only only gets five minutes than a private interview where he can get grilled for whatever the rules allow. Hunter probably thinks he can rope-a-dope his way through 5 minutes.

I think Comer needs to make it public here or it will look very strange for him IMO.

No reason they can’t have those same rules in a public hearing. BS excuse to hide their BS from the people

Huh? This is a HOUSE Committee. Are you paying attention?

I have no idea what is going to come out of these hearings. But judging how the right has reacted to them being public, it looks like they sense it's not going to go well for them.

That’ll make it too hard to lie about the testimony. He’ll stick to his guns.

Well, I agree with most that this should be public if if happens, but I do have an issue with the opening sentence... If he is putting conditions on his acceptance, he's not really complying with the subpoena as written, is he?

BTW, his "trump card" is probably the truth that his dad wasn't really involved in his business activities, other than "access" being dangled out there without his knowledge...

Ball is in their court now. If they refuse to a public hearing, it means they have something to hide.
