I can't stand water, and really hate the word hydration, and "Stay hydrated!" is annoyingly preachy, but I guess I have to start drinking the cursed stuff. I went to the doctor with symptoms the particulars of which I'll spare you, but one of the several diagnoses was that I was dehydrated. I guess that made sense as I don't drink water; tea, coke, beer, wine and margaritas are all more interesting. But it surprised me because I didn't feel thirsty.
I hear you. I got a kidney stone once. Urologist told me I had to drink like 7 large glasses of water a day - I laughed and said, "No. I am not going to change my life over something the size of a BB". That was 30 years ago. I never had another kidney stone. I make a "brew" of several teas - try mixing Tangerine Orange, Black Cherry, and lemon zinger celestial seasonings teas together - refreshing and tasty.
I will, thanks. But some kidney stones are a lot bigger than a BB, of course. A friend of mine used to faint from pain trying to pass them during high school. Forty years later and he still suffers from them, not that water would help. Come to think of it, I don't think he drinks water either.
The last summer while working outside and it was hot, I drank a lot of water, and water only, yet I still became dehydrated and had the worst case of muscle cramps and pain I have ever experienced...I eventually passed out from the pain onto the kitchen floor...
Feeling thirsty is a bodily response to dehydration, not a warning sign it might happen. Eat a lot of high fluid 'foods' and sip all day long on something. Use reminders. I learned to drink every time I turned a page when I read, every time a commercial showed up on radio or tv.
I drink Poland Springs water and put in the back of the fridge so it's really, really cold. It is soooo good when you are thirsty.
Yes, water is good for us. I like flavored water, though. Like coffee flavored water in the morning and pale ale flavored water in the evening. Water .... Mmmmm!

Gotta stay wet chef. I'm actually surprised I haven't had issues w/ kidney stones. The past say 20 years or so, I've dehydrated myself and had heat stroke 2 times, & have been drinking certainly way less than the recommended daily dosage of pure H2O for a bit longer. Considering during that time, all but 7 years of it were filled with copious amounts of brown ale, & whiskey..... Come to think about it, maybe the fact that I like my whiskey with a bit of ice, & a good dram of water, helped. IDK, rambling.....
Yeah, over that period I had various occupations, many, well.... Most I believe were pretty strenuous, lots of leaking. My chef'ing years actually saw much less water consumption. The only water I consumed then, was in coffee, & my whiskey. Beer was really the only water I drank then. That was like from 17 to 28.
Drinking too much water (over-hydration) can cause all sorts of problems such as muscle cramps & spasms, headache, confusion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, unconsciousness, cardiac arrest, coma. death, etc, etc... Too much water might have been the culprit.
I couldn't help but note the irony of "Hairball" commenting on hydration given that dehydrated cats have more problems with Hairballs. I smell a conspiracy!
Yes, water is good for you. So are kale, turnip greens, kohlrabi, prunes, flaxseed, bean sprouts, and 30 minutes of aerobic exercise. So ... where can I get a beer again? But seriously, I've learned that "8 glasses of water a day," which sounds preposterous, means eight 8-oz. glasses, and there are 16 oz in those skinny bottles of water. So four of those is 8 glasses. I managed to gag down two and a half of those yesterday. So I'm getting there ....
