I honestly don't know how to answer your poll. I'm not happy. I'm a conservative. But would I choose to be anything other than an American? I think not. But this country isn't one I recognize from the one I knew back in the 1980s. It is an alien and foreign place, in which leftists openly call for the death and/or removal of conservatives from the country, including in this very thread; in which leftists openly call for white people to be wiped out, bred out of existence, or otherwise repressed; in which free speech is openly attacked as something to be stamped out. It is a place where Christianity is openly disdained, ridiculed, mocked, attacked, and suppressed, all in the name of "equal rights". It is a place where people who came here to escape from foreign hellholes dare to tell us that America was never great. It is a place where Republicans get elected based on their policy positions and then refuse to do what they said they were going to once they are in office. It is a place where colleges, once the bastion of free speech, attack and intimidate conservatives who wish to speak. It is a place where GEORGE ****ING WASHINGTON, THE FATHER OF THE COUNTRY, is denounced, covered up, hidden from view as someone to be ashamed of. Well, I am ashamed of this country. It isn't America. I don't know what the **** to call it, but it isn't America anymore. Am I an American? Damn straight I am. But am I happy to be an American? I don't know.

There was no fiscal malfeasance the Republicans handed the Democrats a strong economy with full employment soaring tax revenues and a paltry $161B deficit.

I'm an "old guy"... and I agree completely that this country has changed dramatically since the 1980's. With the exception of greatly advanced techologies that have provided practical improvements in our way of life, I am greatly disappointed and displeased with nearly ALL of what has happened in the United States since the departure of President Ronald Reagan.

Right after the fall of the Soviet Union, we had an opportunity to thoroughly and permanently improve nearly everything of any lasting importance and value for both ourselves and the whole human race, but lofty hopes and ambitions where crushed underfoot by the various competing political 'machines' in their newly-focused, short-sighted efforts toward total domination of everything and everyone.

To make it as simple as possible, what I see coming now, like a runaway freight train, is a situation hauntingly similar to that described by George Orwell in his masterpiece of dystopia, "1984"... with a few interesting deviations.

Going forward, I think it's crystal-clear what's going to happen globally. The international central-banking cartels will be unsuccessful in their attempts to create and sustain smothering, hegemonic control over everyone, largely because of superior competition of many different kinds from the increasingly powerful and successful alliance of the Russian Federation and China. In those countries, central banks don't tell the government what to do... not at all....

This won't 'come to a head' during what remains of my lifetime, but in the next ten years, we'll see the power and influence of the United States continue to wither and decay throughout the world -- first, in Eastern Asia, the Middle East, and Africa... and then in Europe. We will be essentially "run out" of the entire Eastern Hemisphere by 2030, and by then I see a European Union headed by Germany in a much closer relationship with the Russia/China alliance than with the U. S. While this happens, we'll continue to be inundated with the peasant 'migrant' dregs of Central America and Mexico (and later, much of South America, too), as hordes of scavengers move in by the millions to pillage our remaining wealth, while we become comatose in our inability even to govern ourselves.

We Americans will continue to be in a state of psychological civil war for a very long time to come, with each political faction blaming the other for the continuing deterioraton in just about damn near EVERYTHING in our way of dumbed-down, debt-ridden, hopelessly stupid, listless lives.

I fear the prospect of death much less now than I used to.... But, to your point -- what's the alternative?! :lonely:

Kneejerk denialism of reality duly noted for the record and ignored for obvious reasons.

Support me. I'll stop it. It would only take the right leadership to get Europe back on track, to keep China in check, to stop the influx of immigrants, to push back against fundamentalist Islam, etc. I don't see the current situation as 1984, I see it as the fall of Rome. Much of what is happening today parallels the fall of Rome to a surprising degree, only considerably sped up. Rome lasted a thousand years, we're not going to last much longer than 250 if we don't turn things around. But don't despair... it took 700 years for the Spaniards to push the Muslims back out of Spain, but they did it finally. We (choose your own "we") shall triumph in the end. And if I figure out how to come to power, it won't take more than seven years to fix all the problems we have now.

I'm an American expatriate living in a totalitarian state, the hermit kingdom of California that is in a state of rebellion against the federal government.

How happy do you think I am ?

Interesting. And, today, if Spaniards (or any other Europeans) were trying get the Muslim mobs out, the hyperliberal Left would raising holy hell about how the horrible, right-wing "NAZIS" were trying to thwart "inclusiveness" and "diversity" in their countries! OH, the HORROR!

Better to be alive in the US now than in 1919 or 1819...

Sorry - I tried to present more of a response, but every time my fingers hit the keys, I started laughing again.
