    That's exactly it.

I actually do have some respect for @Le Chef for being honest that he valued his beliefs more than this 40+ year friendship instead of posting the Sally/Bob meme as a way to shut people up. Politics shape our culture. It's more an idealogy than religion is. It oppresses some of us more than others.

By all means, please kick your liberal friends out your life. You'll be putting yourselves out of our misery. :)

In 2019, you're far more likely to be kicked out of the Left for being liberal.

I knew the left were intolerant, but their complete embracement of totalitarianism snuck up on me.

I never guessed that they would use their smears as justifications for assaulting people and depriving them their rights; even employment.

If a friendship is only measured by agreement of political or religious ideology, it isn’t much of a friendship. And, if you base your decision to extend friendship on that basis, then what does that say of you?

"Snuck up" is right. It was all going so well up until the end of the 20thC, then we turned into the very ideologues we spent the 1960's fighting.

The cancel culture and political correctness are attempting to smother us all. I can't believe you seriously support that, and liberals are more sympathetic to it than conservatives. Whether it really is liberal or something else can be debated. But conservatism is the polar opposite and should be celebrated for that reason alone.

How? How is my definition of a Nazi wrong? Keep in mind it is a functional not a historical one And how doesn't it fit Trump like a glove?

The person that started this thread has a terrible problem. He/she is missing out on good friendships solely because he/she disagrees with another's Political views. It should not be such a big deal. We all have a vote. The most votes win.

It seems that Democrats have a problem accepting the outcome of Elections. I accepted Obama's win. My business suffered for 8 years. Then Trump was elected and the business is thriving and our employees are earning more.I

My husband and I are close to retirement. I don't need a Socialist in the White House.

Trump has to be re-elected and Republicans have to win the House and Senate for the Country to thrive.

Anyone who can't have friends across the political spectrum has a profound mental problem and requires help. Actual professional help. Immediately. I don't care if they are left or right wing. The same goes for people who can't have friends of different races, religions, genders, sexuality etc. I have never ended a friendship because someone had different politics than me.

I have friends across the political spectrum, from hard left to Trump voters and everywhere in between. I recently had a big birthday party. Present were people whose origins were from all corners of the world; Hindus, Muslim, Christians of every stripe and plenty of unbelievers; conservatives, moderates, and pretty far left. Every person can make a choice about how they judge others.

I am not saying that there aren't views a person could hold that might exclude them from being my friend, just that I strongly err on the side of tolerance if we get along. That is how we create a functioning society - by accepting differences and bonding on commonalities. If we refuse to look past those differences we choose to divide and segregate our society and need to personally take responsibility for doing so. Each and every one of us can choose to be defined by our differences or we can choose to look past them.

Ohh and he's not a socialist..

Yeah so calling him a nazi? Yeah. Kinda a lie.

    Trump is definitely a racist

    https://www.vox.com/2016/7/25/12270880/donald-trump-racist-racism-history

and an incipient dictator, as his use of decrees and stonewalling Congress show.

Nazis don't have to kill anyone. The "Final Solution" wasn't implemented until 1941 but the pattern
of discrimination against other races was clear from the beginning , just like the article cited here makes clear about Trump

Oh, and the National "Socialists" were about as socialist as the Democratic Republic of North Korea is either democratic or a republic

    Let's see...

The concept of fairness/justice and "Rights'.
    Left or Right?

    Totalitarianism/fascism.
    Left or Right?

Specifically, the Right to (above-poverty) employment.
[Listed as a Universal Right, in the UNUDHR (Article 25)].
    Left or Right?

As opposed to gross mal-distribution of resources, with billionaires popping up like weeds while median wages are stagnating, 50% of Americans experience chronic financial stress, and involuntary un+underemployment+those who have given-up looking = more than 10% of the working age population?

[And vested interests insist on extracting the last ton of coal and oil for huge personal profit, regardless of harm to human and ecological health, while claiming exploited consumers cannot 'afford' to transit to clean green - when the transition is not about money but about deployment of resources].

I note your self-described debating stance, namely:

"this post is intended for entertainment purposes only. All words contained herein are presented without the assumption of liability for their misuse or for any misunderstanding. While the poster strives for accuracy and clarity, there is no warranty proffered; either express or implied".

So I suppose I should cut you some slack....

"The concept of fairness/justice and "Rights'.

    Mostly right, these days.

    "Totalitarianism/fascism.
    Left or Right?"

    Left, exclusively.

"Specifically, the Right to (above-poverty) employment. ...
    Left or Right?"

It is a principle, of the right, that everyone have the opportunity to compete for well paying jobs or the starting of businesses.

The left work to deny people employment due to their political leanings. The left hate business and do all they can to impede commerce.

"As opposed to gross mal-distribution of resources, with billionaires popping up like weeds while median wages are stagnating, 50% of Americans experience chronic financial stress, and involuntary un+underemployment+those who have given-up looking = more than 10% of the working age population?"

And yet, the incomes at the very bottom of the scale, have risen the most recently.

what is so funny is that you don’t know what the words mean. Totalitarianism is exactly what Trump wants. Look up the word and he fits the definition and so does fascist...
So are you saying that the left hates business? Why would you say something so ridiculous? Is it just because they believe that women should be paid the same as men for doing the same work? Or maybe you just like that the people at the top make billions while paying the workers minimum-wage? But I guess you think that the incomes at the very bottom of the scale rising a few pennies is great.

That would be me. First off, it is not "solely because...." Things have changed since Trump.. Liberals do NOT see him as President. Stars in the media and entertainment industry, and political opponents, all hate him. I don't like that. It's bad manners, poor sportsmanship, petty, and undemocratic.

Ironically, most of my better friends have been Democrats, going all the way back to Nixon. Another irony is that I'm not Republican and usually vote Libertarian. I think what has changed is that political affiliation and orientation now seems to be a defining characteristic. People don't ask questions like "Do you share my concern that taxes are too high/low, that Trump may have psychological issues, that he is too friendly with autocrats...."

What happens is that someone will just drop into a conversation a remark like "Isn't it frightening to have a white supremacist oligarch and Putin apologist in the White House?" like it's a given that if you're intelligent you have to see things as I do. If you disagree, or even raise a question, then you're either stupid or a racist yourself.

And look at out exchanges here on this forum.

I guess I should disclose that I got a heartfelt hand written apology this week from the friend on the other side of the USA who prompted all this. I wrote back and said basically that I was miserable about our breach, that it was my fault, and wanted a rapprochement. So we're good and we just won't discuss politics anymore.
