Can you think of any more excuses why we should avoid enforcing the law? You guys have said time and again that we're a country of laws, now crickets.

Why don't you make a list of the laws you want enforced and another list of the ones you don't. Better yet, make a list of the people you feel are above the law and another list of those who have to follow it.

There is no DACA law that has been passed by Congress. Trump offered to sign a bill presented to him by Congress along with funding for his wall, but Congress did not even do that. The wall is needed in many places and the immigration system needs to be reformed.....period.

No, the courts did. Trump canceled it, but gave Congress 6 months to act...which they did not.

Remember, Obama said he couldn't do DACA by himself because he wasn't a king. Guess he changed his mind.

In November 2014, President Obama announced his intention to expand DACA to cover additional illegal immigrants. Multiple states immediately sued to prevent the expansion which was ultimately blocked by an evenly divided Supreme Court. Under President Trump the United States Department of Homeland Security rescinded the expansion on June 16, 2017, while continuing to review the existence of the DACA program as a whole. Plans to phase out DACA were announced by the Trump Administration on September 5, 2017; implementation was put on hold for six months to allow Congress time to pass the Dream Act or some other legislative protection for Dreamers. Congress failed to act and the time extension expired on March 5, 2018, but the phase-out of DACA has been put on hold by several courts.

On August 31, 2018, District Court Judge Andrew Hanen ruled that DACA is likely unconstitutional. However, he let the program remain in place as litigation proceeds.

If you do not like wiki, here is the ICE website:

2017 Update: On September 5, 2017, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) initiated the orderly phase out of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy. For more information, read the 2017 DACA announcement on the USCIS website.

Important information about DACA requests: Due to a federal court order, USCIS has resumed accepting requests to renew a grant of deferred action under DACA. USCIS is not accepting requests from individuals who have never before been granted deferred action under DACA. Until further notice, and unless otherwise provided in this guidance, the DACA policy will be operated on the terms in place before it was rescinded on Sept. 5, 2017.

Uh huh...so the 6 month extension should have ended over a year ago. Yet trump keeps it in place. Even though it’s illegal?

Having trouble reading this afternoon? It was the Federal Courts that have allowed it to remain in place.....a Judge Hanen to be exact.

    100% false.

Trump demanded DACA be matched with tens of billions of dollars for his wall and massive changes to the legal immigration system.

if Trump offered DACA for the wall, he would get it.

    Nah but that’s BS

Government continues to accept DACA renewal applications. Although the government could have sought a stay of Judge Alsup’s preliminary injunction — i.e., while it could have asked the judge or the Supreme Court to allow the government to continue with its process of shutting down DACA[11] — it did not do so. Therefore, the government must continue to accept DACA renewal applications in accordance with the preliminary injunction.

DACA need to be passed by Congress in order to be law. If it is not, than it would very likely be unconstitutional. Congress HAS NOT passed DACA. Trump promised to sign a DACA bill as part of the compromise with Democrats....who did not even bother to present a bill. As it stands now, our current DACA is very likely unconstitutional as it was a law created by Executive Order.

Doubt it. Dems don’t believe he really wants to end DACA, mostly because he’s said he doesn’t and still hasn’t really tried to. Why give up anything for something you already have?

I'm surprised at you Mello. You are not even bothering to read your own links.

The current case is Texas and 6 other States are suing the Federal Government over the Constitutionality of DACA (Texas, et. al. v. Nielson, et. al.). that case is in front of Judge Hanen. On May 2, 2018 Texas, et. al filed for preliminary injunction to halt DACA. On August 31, 2018 Judge Hanen denied the injunction and ruled that DACA must stay in place during litigation.

The parties have moved to a discovery hearing. Texas el.al filed for a Summary Judgement claiming no other discovery is needed. The hearing on the Summary Judgement is set for July 8, 2019.....a little under a month away

Even if Congress agrees ,they would still need to pass a DACA bill through the House and Senate beforehand. The law, as it currently stands, is very likely unconstitutional. Trump can not just snap his fingers and make a Executive Order that was illegally created a permanent law. Obama though he could and it is tied up in court at the moment.....and according to the Judge presiding, it is likely that the States suing over the constitutionality of DACA will likely win.
