One of the reasons they make arrests on Sundays. A large majority of illegals are Catholic and go to Mass.

    This just occurred to me:

"I am Officer Armstrong. I have a final order of removal for Roberto Ramirez. Is he here?"

    "No."

Now, suppose Ramirez is there cowering in the pantry and the woman at the door knows it. She has just lied to an ICE agent. Has she committed a criminal offense? Anyone? Bueller?

They usually already know who they are targeting.

I know. But they don't know if he is there unless they saw him go in.

Would you prosecute the woman at the door under 18 USC 1001?

Because the irritating refrain is "you don't have to answer the door or let them in without a warrant." True. But can you lie to the agent asking if the fugitive is there?

    I say no.

They would have to 'prove' she didn't know. Pretty hard and out of their jurisdiction at the moment.

I'd settle on a comfortable flight home for those under deportation orders, put some chairs in an ageing government 747 or C-130 and do a tour of Central America.
