Personally, I don't know why things are going up. I suspect a lot of things I wouldn't particularly care for, like a low interest rate, which Trump hates.

The facts in terms of who will win in 2020 are what matter, and whoever the dems pick is going to lose.

Yes basically I can see a lot of reasons why chain restaurants would be struggling on one level or another and there's a bunch more out there that are probably doing quite well that dip into the business of the restaurants that were listed in the op.

Then you factor in people that just plain and simply like to cook and it's easier now, we have resources that ur parents didn't have. Dozens of cooking shows YouTube, alexa/siri, high end grocers, food carts, prepared meal delivery, lots of nifty franchises popping up. big box stores offer massive portions and good quality.

they all chip away at the traditional chains and they are forced to contract if they cant compete. at least it makes sense to me.

Nothing like pain and suffering to excite progressives who feed off of the desperation of others.

The sign of a dynamic, vibrant economy is that it will create new jobs and enterprises as cultural changes make others go away. Old established chains like Applebees is suffering while a few smaller chains spawned by former employees flourish.

This is common in business. Established chains with the inertia of the older baby boom generation customer base can't win for losing. If they try to attract millennials, they lose the base that built them.

Then there's Chick-fil-A. The lines to score some homophobic chicken are huge.

Obama was the part time Jobs champion. Now people are moving from part time to full time because there aren't enough people to fill the part time jobs, We have fewer people on food stamps and other poverty programs because they don't need them any more.

My feeling was that there was real excitement in the economy when Trump was first elected. Our local restaurants were all packed.

After almost three years of Trump, the excitement has waned. People realize that it is more of the same. Yes, unemployment is low, as it trended already under late Obama, but the tax cuts did little to the bottom line of the average household, while prices are rising. Also, GDP growth is nowhere near the +4% propaganda. So, people become disillusioned.

My family of four likes to go out for dinner every Sunday. Before Trump, a typical burger with fries used to be $9. Now it is $12. There goes most of my tax cut money, nothing gained for the family finances.

Trump and fans can scream "booming economy" only for so long until people realize that it is just propaganda. Eventually, the fundamentals take over, which is happening right now. And the fundamentals say: Wages still low, inflation slowly rising (while still somewhat tame), consumer in deep debt.... You get the picture.

Trump LOVES low interest rates. He is constantly pushing the Fed to lower them.

Restaurant chains come and go. Applebees and Hooters are beyond played out.

Chik-Fil-A and Cooper's Hawk are booming.

And Tilted Kilts are a far better 'breasturant' than Hooters with their ridiculous 80s dayglo shorts and the steel-belted pantyhose.

If the economy is booming, then how come all the Blockbusters are going out of business? Dur dur dur?

Why are so many trucking companies closing their doors and others are closing ports and warehouses due to the lower transportation needs...Because of fewer goods being transported. My son just got notified he will have to relocate from Rogers, Ar to Ft. Worth, Tx to keep his job. MAGA!

Another thing that's killing the weak restaurant chains...

    Meal-Delivery-Service-Group-Shot.jpg

The "dinner in a box" companies. I personally do Green Chef. Why I wanna schlep out for fast food crap, when I can have good food delivered right to my door?

It wasn't a poor economy that drove the buggy whip makers out of business.

Yes indeed a great recession does impair an economy.

So you're the one driving the restaurants out of business then.

    Aha, we've found the culprit.

Still doesn't explain why trucking companies are closing doors...

He said he knew of a company that had to shut down a terminal in Colorado because they could not get enough employees who could pass a drug test.

"It is a problem," Costello admitted.

He made sure to mention it's more than that, though. Finding people who are willing to go out on the road for an extended period of time is difficult as well.

Maybe you could get the feds out of the truckers asses and let them work?

You literally just destroyed your own argument.

Trucking companies are closing, because they can't find drivers, because the economy is TOO GOOD.

It's amazing watching leftists wreck themselves.

I was having a discussion with myself since no one else is interesting enough on this site to hold a conversation with, and it has nothing to do with leftism since I am ambidextrous.
