No it isn't. US imperialism doesn't hurt them a bit. Hell Obama desperately wanted them to succeed. And Trump has had far bigger more dangerous fish to fry. Therefore, there increasingly obvious failure is no one's fault but that of their government.

Strange you mentioned Sweden. When their abusive tax got up around 60% a few years ago, so they could "give" everyone all the "free schidt" they backed off on their taxation. Imagine giving the government 60 cents out of every dollar you earn.

Why do democrats think that the government knows more about spending your money than you do???? Remember our government is the one that has driven this country over TWENTY TRILLION DOLLARS in debt.

Why have you deflected the issue with Julio Chavez, when the discussion is about the Dictator Hugo Chavez and the money he stole from the people of Venezuela? After the death of Chavez, his daughter María Gabriela Chavez absconded with over $4 billion dollars of the People's money. (I previously claimed it was over $5 Billion, my mistake.)
    Your response was illogical.

Yes but we've always kept the price aggordable with thirty eyar mortgages at relatively low interest rates. The problem now is that we don't build hoe fr working folks any more and state federal and locla bureaucrats have assumed that no one wanted to buy used appliances to keep the price down. The only thing my mom and dad's first house came with was a hot water heater. and sinks in the requisite rooms the rest he added later as time and money became available.

The US government has been trying to destabilize Venezuela for years, so how much of Venezuela's economic problems come from US intervention and how much of them come from state socialism? I don't presume to know the answer, but it would be pretty dishonest to deny the role the US government plays in that country's difficulties.

The US government's imperialist practices in South America are not in dispute by any informed individual. I suggest you get informed.

Yes, I can remember the first home I bought in 1967 with a twenty year mortgage. It was Town House in Ozone Park Queens, NY built in 1928. No refrigerator, or stove. Within the year I had to replace the boiler, hot water heater, repair the roof, replace the windows and the front door. Aah yes I remember those DYI days with nostalgia. Home #2 custom built modular. Different jobs. Landscaping, building stone walls, sheds mowing 5 acres of lawn every 4 days and plowing my 200 yard private driveway in winter. Home #3 is on it's way.

    Let's get something straight:
    1) There is no such thing as democratic socialism.
    2) Socialism is immoral. Why? Because theft is wrong no matter if it is decided by a majority or not.

Only an idiot would have had such hope. Everything that has happened to Venezuela has been perfectly predictable. Pray tell, who are these idiots who had such hope?

It helps if you know something of the history of VZ.

Venezuela Before Chavez: A Prelude to Socialist Failure ...

Before the completion of its first oil field on April 15, 1914, Venezuela was essentially a Banana Republic marked by political instability. This was largely a consequence of its colonial past and the period following its independence from Spain.

Nothing democratic about Venezuela. It is dictatorial socialism similar to Mao Tse Tung and the USSR.

Margot have you ever been to Venezuela? Hmmm..., the last time I was there was in 1999 I visited Coro and Maracaibo, lovely cities of course Maracaibo is larger than Coro, but at the time each of the cities appeared to be advanced and I didn't see signs extreme of poverty. With the rise of Hugo Chavez and now Nicolas Maduro things have changed. Not only is there no toilet paper, electricity, food, or medical supplies. Chavez confiscated all the guns just after his takeover. Now the people are at the whims of a tyrant all in the name of Marxist Socialism.

My visit to Caracas was in the 1970's. Yes there were poor people but nothing like today. The traffic in the city was horrendous. When people ask me what my favorite restaurant of all time is, it was an open air restaurant in the near suburbs of Caracas. Great food. Beautiful weather. It was a great place to live in those days. I was raised in Cuba and I can say the same thing about it.

haven't you heard Venezuela isn't a real socialism. In fact there has never been a real socialism. Despite its repeated failings and extraordinary death tolls through history

That's because they did it wrong.

The hard-leftists will never rise to a place of power until they stop blaming Uncle Same for all of their problems.
Just like Muslim nations will never achieve success until they stop blaming "The Jews".

The glorious USSR would be a raging success, a shining example to the world, if it was not for the evil, vile, despicable United States of America.
