If the shutdown lasts two more weeks, the cost to the economy will exceed price of Trump's wall

Wait a minute..... You folks have been saying all along that walls don't work ---- people will climb over, or dig under, or walk around them, they just won't work ---- but now it sounds like you are saying they work.....

I wish there was a way to know what percentage of "asylum" claims are legitimate. (Maybe once we begin processing the caravan "asylum" seekers, that information can be made public.) I doubt even a small % of the caravan members are legitimate asylum seekers. (Coming to America because we have better jobs and better welfare does not constitute "asylum".) Plus, as we saw before, look how many of the caravaners are ready to just storm the border. If we can demonstrate that we are serious about protecting our border and our country we would also send a message to discourage the faux-asylum seekers, I would think.

We also need to see what can be done to improve the asylum seeking process.

Then Democrats should just fund the wall.

That argument is akin to saying, "The family should just pay the kidnappers ransom."

And your argument is, "the kidnappers should just give up the kid?"

You do make a good point.

When traveling over New Year's (when TSA was low on airport screeners) anybody that walked passed a bomb sniffing dog could leave their shoes on.

Saved a lot of time, without compromising safety.

But yeah, the world hasn't ended.

The only thing is, the economic impact of the furloughed workers not spending in the economy has to affect something (sooner or later).

Democrats could put an end to this in 15 minutes but they refuse to comprimise.

    The Buck stops with Trump.

If Trump possessed any character beyond that of a Syphilitic Sea Slug, Trump could settle it right now.

In spite of that weak DEM talking point that the wall would be too expensive, this is not actually about the money.

You are once again believing the media mantra that is saying that Trump doesn't actually know exactly what he is doing.

In reality, Trump is exposing the issue to everyone who doesn't follow politics all that closely.
When people see the actual difference between the two positions, it is an easy assessment to make.

No. The analogy, like all analogies, is ****.

But in this case, the "family" (democrats) is actively trying to "bring the kid home" (re-open the government) by seeking public support (and they are winning that messaging battle), agreeing to payments that previously got the kidnappers approval (trump previously expressed support for the CR that passed the Senate 97-0), paying for things that are unrelated to the ransom (funding the sections of the government unrelated to the border wall, like the IRS and FDA), by pointing out how the kidnappers can't be trusted to make any deal (trump previously agreed to a DACA for border wall deal, only to reneg because he decided to add more hardline demands), and by noting that the kidnappers are making inconsistent demands (trump said he wanted to wait for the supreme court to make a deal on daca, and now is saying that he wants a daca deal to maybe take place simultaneously) all while reminding everyone of that harm and destruction being caused to the kids and the community (trumps shutdown is actively harming millions of US citizens, their families, national parks, their food inspections, their flight safety, and costing everyone billions in lost revenue and lost productivity).

Which is precisely why the polling data for support of trump and his non-existant plan are getting worse.

Just like this is not about national security or a national emergency.

For trump, this is solely about a vanity project and saving himself from impeachment.

Federal government employees don't just live in DC: http://www.governing.com/gov-data/federal-employees-workforce-numbers-by-state.html.

They live across the country, so local economies are affected in multiple areas. Then there is the domino effect on multiple industries that occurs across the nation when people aren't able to pay for as many goods and services.

I can't see this going on for more than another month. Struggling Americans who can't afford diapers, formula, medicine, gas or daycare makes horrible optics and as since this appears to be partly about jockeying for votes from mainstreet, it's a counterproductive strategy.

Why do Cult45ers not seem to blame Cantaloupe Caligula and his congressional scrotum lickers for letting 24 months of total Republican control pass without dealing with this 'crisis?' Why no sense of urgency before?

Of course, the analogy breaks down because the 'ransom money' (border wall money) doesn't just go into the 'kidnappers" pocket. Trumps's way results in not only 'bringing the kid home' but also provides a way to drastically improve the border. So that's TWO positives! You and the Democrats only want ONE positive. Why is that? You and the Democrats want to "bring the kid home" WITHOUT paying the ransom. Well I'm afraid that almost never happens other than in the movies.
