If you could be the opposite sex for a night...

The latest Black Mirror episode explores an idea I had never considered. If virtual reality made it possible, would you want to feel what someone of the opposite sex feels while having sex?

It's rare that a show like that comes up with an idea I haven't encountered, but that's a first for me! What a freaky idea!

People think sexual fluidity is a thing now. Just wait until you can change sexes with nothing but a thought.

 

This reminds me of a TV movie I saw when I was a kid. It was pretty shocking at the time. A scientist learns how to record memories and play them back for other people to experience. One recording was made from the POV of a man having sex with a hot blonde. Near the end of the movie, a friend of the scientist takes the sex memory program and makes it loop where the man is having an orgasm. Eventually the scientist comes in an find his friend nearly dead and convulsing on the floor from hours and hours of one endless orgasm. Heh. I remember that freaking me out at bit.

If virtual reality gets that good, it is hard to imagine where the fantasies end...

One book I can think of where the protagonist changes sex is Steel Beach, by John Varley. Yeh, quite possibly we will change sex like putting on a different coat someday. It's not been done yet to my knowledge but I have been told that even the full plumbing is not all that hard to change, or won't be very soon

Changing sex is actually something of a fetish in anime at this time.

 

I remember that movie. I think it might be Dreamscape, but I'm not sure.

 

It would be quite telling and interesting to "Know" what I actually think of me as a woman.....quite the insight.

Plus I could play with myself.

There was a science fiction novel some years ago which had some extraterrestrials called Riders, I think, who could take control of humans' bodies and make them do whatever they wanted while the person was helpless and forced to watch. So they could, for example, make a straight man have sex with another guy. The idea is quite perverse really.

 

That's about ten years later. I saw this back in the early to mid 1970s. And I remember watching it on TV.

I remember that I liked both BrainStorm and Dreamscape. After watching Dreamscape I knew what it was like to take LSD. LOL!

Jacobs Ladder is a great movie for surrealism.

And so is The Lathe of Heaven. [PBS made a low-budget version for TV but the story is excellent]

There was a brief scene in Minority Report with Tom Cruise where he pops into some kind of storefront place where the proprietor talks about people inside immersed in VR machines experiencing orgasms as the opposite sex. It's just a throwaway line, but it is there.
