Simple question: if you do have a business, or did have a business, and were allowed to, would you discriminate based on race, gender, religion, ethnicity?

this goes for all private entities, including schools, hospitals, restaurants, factories, banks, apartment buildings, bus companies, etc etc.

    personally, I would not.

    but i know others would

It depends on what they want me to do. A gay couple buying a box of donuts, I'd give it to them. Same gay couple wants me to cater their wedding, no, I wouldn't.

Usage of "gender" instead of "sex" makes it a loaded question.

For example, if I was a doctor or in the medical profession I would refuse to write any hormone prescription or do any sex reassignment surgery on any minor. However, if I had a store I would not refuse to sell clothing of the opposite sex to that kid or kid's parent.

So I suppose my answer is yes, circumstantially I would "discriminate."

You know how some women use a shampoo that leaves their hair with that gentle fragrance like a bouquet of flowers?

I think I would discriminate in favor of them.

Though I would not discriminate based on any of your criteria, I DO discriminate just like everyone on this planet who I allow around me. This can be race based, religion based...whatever. I simply do not like Middle Eastern men and distrust them, I do not like hoodlum black men (or any hoodlums) so I avoid them completely. I discriminate who becomes my friend....shoot me for being human.

If I owned a construction business and was contracted to build 'secure rooms' for muslim men to keep their women from running away, I would refuse.

I chose 'no', but does this count as a 'yes'?

Of course I would discriminate, on the basis of merit. But no, in regards to the actual question.

We all discriminate in one way or another all the time.

Business owners have the right to do so as well. We have simply allowed the state to violate their rights.

The question should not be based on allowing or permitting people to exercise their right's it should be by what justification do we stop them.

Having said all of that if I started a business I would only discriminate against or in favor of the color of money. The funny thing is the VAST majority of business owners feel the same way and few would discriminate against anyone if left alone.

What is the point of being in business if you intend to discriminate against paying customers. It's defeating your purpose.Cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I would only discriminate on the basis of ability to pay. The sign in my shop would say "In God we trust, everyone else pays cash."

    Very true.

But it is not the governments place to forbid such stupid decisions.

Leftists think people are naturally bad, and need government to force them to be good. All you have to do to prove that is ask them what would happen to businesses if anti-discrimination laws were repealed. They will swear to you that we'll have whites-only water fountains again.

If businesses COULD do that, the number that would do it would be 1 in 10000 or less, and the market would drive them out of business in short order.

We do need government to force business to do the right thing, otherwise we would not have a landscape covered with toxic waste sites love Canals and the like and polluted rivers and streams.Businesses never seem to clean up their own mess unless forced to do so.They for the most part loot and pollute.

Assuming I was in a society that allowed discrimination I would certainly discriminate in favour of those discriminated against, ie in Nazi Germany I would choose Jews whenever I could. In Israel I would employ as many Palestinians as I could.
All it takes for evil to triumph is for a good man to do nothing!

No, it could destroy your business by not refusing..

The Westboro Baptist Church hires you to cater one of their rallies of their holding signs and shouting American military personnel should die because the military allows gays. You take the job.

Next, plastered across the Internet is demanding that you be boycotted and suggesting your business be vandalized because of photos showing "Catered by (you/your company)" - though you didn't make the sign - along with the Westboro Baptist church's anti gay and anti-military signs." This is splattered all across the Internet, Facebook and YouTube - that with people then posting that your business is a racist, neo-Nazi, fascist and virulently homophobic and anti-military personnel business.

Even if you had any ability to explain "hey, I'll take anyone's money because the only morality I have is about making money" - I don't think that'd be accepted as an excuse.

Think you made money out of that?

I would never hire a Progressive. I would never hire a Redneck. I would never hire an LGBT person (97% of my customers may be uncomfortable dealing with same). I would never hire a Religious Ideologue. I would never hire an SJW. I would never hire someone with lots of visible ink (99% of my customers may be uncomfortable dealing with same). And finally, I would never hire anyone who doesn't have an excellent command of the language, and significant ease and facility in its expression. So yeah, plenty of discrimination there :)

I have discriminating tastes. If anyone wanted to buy something I was selling, as long as they have the money, that is all I want. The rest, I could give an owl's hoot about.
