Mars, just think of the peace and quiet, let alone no crime.

England, because I wouldn't have to learn a new language (lots of new slang though), there is space (unlike Japan) and there is loads to do there (native food is usually miserable though, you know its bad when the people use vinegar like the US uses ketchup lol).

Both Japan and Italy are very nice. But they both have the same major downside: They are expensive. Japan especially. If you are working they could be fine choices. Unless you are rich, however, retirement in Italy or Japan is not a great option. You will go broke. Lovely places all in all. But not wallet-friendly.

The rumours about UK food are largely untrue. There's actually a huge variety of very good food readily available (including very good 'traditional British' food). The rumours about the beer are even more untrue - the UK has the largest variety of top quality, craftsman-produced ales in the world. Of course, like everywhere else, there is crap available too - it's not hard to avoid, though!

London. It seems terribly provincial and parochial but I can't think of anywhere outside Ireland I would prefer to live.

    I would try Paris maybe.

Its the cheese, isn't it? :)

Grass is always greener on the other side, and dreaming of foreign land is intriguing. Most nations have their their positives and negatives, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The first time I flew into Yokota air base in Japan...it was almost a religious experience.
Nothing but water to the end of the horizon and seemingly out of nowhere, the snow-capped peak of Mt. Fuji appears in the distance...

If for no other reason, Japan tops my list. As already alluded to, it's very expensive...and I'm perfectly happy here in the States.
No plans to move anywhere out of the country anytime soon.

    Some like it hot...

Hello. Your location says Mexico and your nick says ex-pat. Are those accurate and if so can I ask if you like Mexico, what is it like to live there, where do you originate from, are you ex-pat US, UK NZ.... I have been to Mexico and it was a bit US for me. A lot of US influence in the populated areas. But it is lovely.

You will need your wallet though.

Wales has lovely scenery too though, with the mountains. I'm considering a post in Orkney involving travel around about the isles. If you have a Google at property there it has so much potential. If you have work already in place, the partner could do whatever they choose to make a living. I'm sorely tempted.

You are very lucky to be able to move about like that. Are you married? Oh wait. I am. Back to the drawing board...

I think Australia would be my first choice. I love Sydney but all the larger cities have their appeal. I love the Aussie, can do spirit. The only downside is their isolation. I wouldn't mind New Zealand, probably the physically most beautiful country in the world but it, like Australia is isolated. Next choice would be Germany because of family ties and then any part of Great Britain.

I think I'll stay right here in The States though, other than for visits. I have the best of both worlds here, summers on Long Island and winters on the ocean in South Florida. What could be better than year round golf weather?

    New Zealand?
You want to avoid New Zealand like the plague if you're an American.
Anti-Americanism is rampant there, and once it's established you're a "Yank," expect to be discriminated against because of it.

Nations aren't always about the geography, it's the citizens also...and the majority of New Zealanders despise all that is America.

I advise not spending one thin dime of your money there, either as a tourist and certainly not as an ex-pat...

The "hate America" zealotry isn't as established in Australia, but mark my words...avoid New Zealand...it will be a Chinese satellite nation in 50 years...
the Chinese are buying up lots of farm land there and immigrating there.

Southwest Wales is where I would go. I've spent a great deal of time there in the past, still have family there, and just generally like the area. Other than that, I think I'd be happy living somewhere in Cornwall, Somerset, Devon, etc.

I can move anywhere out of my own country, but I would not. There is no other country I would rather live in than the USA, and I have been overseas enough to understand what I am "missing."

No desire to leave the USA- it's a big enough place that there's lots of different places to move. Denver 420 or Tucson AZ.

Not in particular, but I'd love to at least be somewhere in the Swansea area. However, being a bit of a "country bumpkin" I'd probably want to live somewhere outside the city...somewhere around Carmarthen, Ammanford, Llangendeime, etc. I also wouldn't mind being located somewhere in Pembrokeshire...maybe Haverfordwest, Milford Haven, Pembroke, etc.

Most of my family comes from or still lives in the Swansea/Neath/Port Talbot/Gorseinon area and I really like the area. Plus, there is always the sporting benefit of being located somewhere near the Liberty Stadium (up the Jacks!).

That should be a wierd place next weekend, but this idea made me laugh:
    http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/football-news/2012/05/07/swansea-city-boss-brendan-rodgers-urges-fans-to-dress-like-elvis-presley-91466-30918390/

I've never seen the round ball game there (although I did see the Swans play at the old Vetch Field a few times when they were in old Division 1 in the early 80's), but it's a great little stadium (and also not far from Cardiff's Millenium Stadium, of course, which I would put forward as one of the greatest international sporting venues in the world). Still the wrong shaped ball for me, though!

With all of it's flaws (and it has a few here and there), South West Wales, and Wales in general, is still a great part of the world. Beautiful scenery, a rich and varied culture and history, great beer, good rugby, and an ancient ruined castle in almost every town - what more could you ask for!

You had me going there for a second until I read the part about the "greatest international sporting venue" and thought you were talking about the Cardiff City Stadium (thank God I mis-read that). On another note, living in Kansas we learn to drive long distances to get wherever we're going, so a 50-100 mile jaunt to see the Jacks play is no big deal.

I like my balls round.

I just can't cope with the whole 'rolling around on the floor screaming because someone came with 6 feet of me and I think the breeze of that put my hair out of place' thing!
