I like the idea of somebody killing violent criminals in self defense. By "one another" you imply that we would kill someone like ourselves. That couldn't be further from the truth. We have over 13,000,000 people legally carrying guns in America and they commit crimes at less than 1/10th the rate of the average person. At least that's the data in Texas by conviction rates for all violent criminals compiled every year. Civilians kill about the same number of criminals as police in justifiable homicide statistics. It's in here if you feel like finding it. http://www.dps.texas.gov/administration/crime_records/pages/crimestatistics.htm
BS . You just like the idea of being able to kill one another more easily than you can in all other developed nations ..... hence your murder rates
Well in my experience people who like the idea of killing each other as easily as possible usually are
All other nations, first world or otherwise, are entirely irrelevant when discussing matters wholly unique to the united states.
Talk about BS. I've never murdered anyone; nor do I intend to. Your hatred and contempt for Americans is growing ever more irrational.
The only reason you are wholly unique when it comes to killing one another easily is that you like it that way. Pardon the rest of us if we beg to differ .... based on basic Arithmetic of course and I know you guys really struggle with the relative numbers
Then stop talking. If the united states is truly as obsessed with the notion of killing as is being stated by yourself, simply stop talking, and leave the discussion, as nothing can be presented on the part of yourself that will change any minds.
I get it: you're an America hater. There is nothing rational in your viewpoint whatsoever. Your claim I "don't care how easily others can in your society" is bovine excrement. What I DO care about is how easily honest people can acquire what they need for self-defense. Criminals are going to get all the deadly weapons they want; no law is going to deter them. So long as that is the case then honest citizens need the means to protect themselves and their families... and sometimes being able to put a bullet through a miscreant's face is the best way to terminate his assault. I know, I know: you're going to triumphantly point to the UK's lack of gun violence. But, I think that is cultural and not about the laws. I just saw a BBC documentary about the growing knife-related violence over there, and when the reporters went to interview street thugs they found that more and more of them are packing guns to protect themselves because of the knife violence! They had no problem getting those guns; they just had not felt any need for them until the knife problem got so out of hand! One of them, a drug dealer, pulled out a semiautomatic pistol with a suppressor from his jacket! Apparently, gun laws don't stop people from getting guns if they're willing to break the law to get them!
Having lived in the US for two years this 'America hater' is better placed to judge than most having seen your societies lethal firearm obsessions at first hand
Having lived in the united states for a grand total of two years means nothing of either relevance or significance.
I have monitored your posts; they aren’t indicative of someone that has seen much of America, but of someone that approached it with the kind of fear that prevents any engagement and understanding. Where would you rather visit and spend time? The US or the North of Ireland? Which fear is greater?
Having lived in the US for the better part of five decades, having served in law enforcement and lived in communities that were safer than most of the UK while the gun ownership rate approached 100%, your "two years" were clearly spent no place I've ever been. Just because someone owns a gun doesn't mean they have a "lethal firearms obsession."
It’s funny, when I was raised in the North of Ireland, my expectations of the US were shaped by American Movies. When I got here, nothing was as expected and no place I visited did I feel was as dangereous as many areas on the streets of Belfast and I went to places here many were afraid to go; still do. Difference is, here I carry legally.
Given your law enforcent officers are some 200 times more likely to be killed in the line of duty as a consequence of guns than ours are I'm very happy you are good with that
Northern Ireland of course. Even at the height of the 'troubles ' in 1972 Belfast had a lower gun death rate than any similarly sized US city today ..... and we considered that a war zone. BTW I served two heavily armed tours in Northern Ireland in 1979 and 1981
