You don't have a response to this...

Trump isn't close to where he was in November 2018. Your best chance is for Democrats nominating Sanders or Warren.

As I said, we can certainly continue to demand him to release his tax returns, but that still does not mean he is require to comply with our demands. What exactly are you going to do if he does not release them?

IRS code and policy does not supersede LAW.

I am not saying he should not release them or that he is in the right, or even that we should not be upset that he broke a promise. I am saying that the tactics being used to FORCE him to release them are very close to and/or are even being over the line of what is legal. The Democrats need to change their methods or else they will have egg all over their face again. Trump will likely fight this all the way to the SCOTUS and the Democrats will likely lose if there is even a sniff that the chairmen's requests are motivated by 'looking for dirt".

Personally, I can not see how any American could support politicians circumventing laws and violating the 4th Amendment in order to "look for dirt" on a political rival. If there was probable cause, that would be one thing. Believing that he "is hiding something" is not probably cause and no court will view it as such.

Also, Trump very likely does not do his own taxes. He has many accountants work on them. These accountants are obligated to follow laws. If they do not , they go down with Trump. I can not see a situation were a accountant would violate tax laws for a man that is very likely to get audited every year. There is also a very good chance that Mueller had access to Trump's taxes as part of his investigation.

Pardon me for belaboring the obvious, but your dear sister Ilhan didn't tell anyone the truth.

The IRS code says they should be released as requested by Congress.

The American public expects Trump to keep his promise and make them public.

If he feels there are things in them that he must keep secret, he will do all he can to violate his promise, challenge the law, and keep them secret.

There is no reason the Congress and the public cannot persist in requesting that he come clean as promised.
Might Trump be justified in believing that, despite his fake promise to release them, it is absolutely vital that he keep hidden what is in them? That the truth being revealed would be disastrous for him?

    Of course.

Ok, let me approach it in another way.

What LAW....not policy....not code....but LAW would you use to force him to release them?

As I said, the IRS code allows specific chairmen on specific committees to request anybody's tax returns. However, LAW dictates that Congressional committees can only investigate something for LEGISLATIVE PURPOSES. They can not request them just because they want to see them. That would be ILLEGAL. This is set LAW from over 100 years ago. Neal's excuse to request them is in order to provide oversight over the IRS code that requires the IRS to review the taxes of a sitting President.

Also, if the chairmen DO get Trump's tax returns, they must be reviewed by the Chairmen in closed session. If they release them to the public, that is a violation of another LAW.

The LAW does not support your demands.

Now, if NY investigates All Country and determines there is something fishy, that would be reasonable cause for an investigation. However, until then, there is NOTHING that requires Trump to publicly release his tax returns.....and "but...but...he PROMISED" or "I want to go fishing" is not going to cut it LEGALLY.

Trump, acclaimed a "symbol of renewed white identity" by an Islamophobic white supremacist who shot to death 50 worshipers in Christchurch mosques, should not be eliciting death threats directed at Muslims just to wee wee up his base.

It behooves him to be careful how he provokes his emotional followers, like Cesar "False Flag" Seyoc.

When the law is challenged, it is settled in the courts.

As a political matter, Americans are free to relentlessly request that Trump keep his promise to release his tax returns.

If Trump feels he needs to challenge the law, defy public requests that he honor his stated commitment, and hide his promised tax returns, that is what he will do.

You do not seem to get it.....THERE IS NO LAW requiring trump to publicly (or to Congress) submit his tax returns.!!!!

You can not challenge a law in court when there is no law.

You can be as relentless as you desire. It will just be like pissing in the wind.

What's he "killing" as President? The economy is growing about as fast as it was in 2014 (not all that great)...

Real wages have grown about 1% in last two years ...

85% of the personal tax cuts went to people making more than $400,000 per year. The budget deficit has doubled to $1t per year. The only trade deals are minor deals with Japan and South Korea. Iran and North Korea are still behaving aggressively. Health care hasn't been fixed. Employers are still free to hire illegals. We aren't fixing our infrastructure.

    Pass the Kool-Aid.

I'm not sure how it might effect your calculus, but the 4th Amendment was rendered null and void by the Patriot Act in 2001, by our elected representatives and Unitary Executive George Bush.

No, the Patriot Act allows all sorts of things forbidden by the 4th. NSL, National Security Letters, empower federal agents to do all sorts of snooping not allowed by the 4th.

That you don't know that is typical of most americans not born when it happened, or born but oblivious to government actions.

In some regards, you are correct. However, you are greatly over simplifying it. The Patriot Act does allow the Federal Government to surveil suspected terrorists prior to obtaining a warrant from FISC, but a warrant must be obtained within 7 days (could be 5...it's been awhile since I read it). If a warrant is not obtained, then all surveillance must be stopped. This does not apply to private citizens. Private citizens are still protected by the 4th Amendment in regards to non-terrorist crimes.

No, it does apply to private citizens. The only people to object were, of all people, a gang of librarians, and of course ACLU and a few other groups.

And it gets worse. A bit later came the Military Commissions Act, along with numerous NDAA amendments, which effectively nullified Habeas Corpus.

If the government designates anybody a terrorist suspect, for example like Carter Page, he can be surveilled without warrants. This is all playing out right now regarding rubber stamping by the FISA court.

Yes, it's real. It's actually happening. Of course the media doesn't like to talk about it, so the average citizen has not a clue.

I agree that the FICA Court does pretty much "rubber stamps" requests for search warrants. I will also agree that the definition of "terrorist" and/or "agent of a foreign power" is very broad.

However, it does not apply to ordinary citizens.....or a more accurate description would be "ordinary citizens not suspected of a Federal crime".

People should read the whole speech. The "some people" comment is taken out of context to manufacture right wing outrage.

Trump has not been eliciting death threats directed at Muslims.

You fool no one with such pathetic displays of dishonesty in defense of the jihadist apologist from Minnesota, Leatherstocking. It's time to put on your big boy buckskin pants and learn how to deal with criticism.

By the way, it's hilarious how you were hoist by your own petard in the attempt to portray Trumpeteers as a bunch of Nazis in Post #733. Such are the rewards for bigotry...

Better be careful, lest a filipino kook build more dud doorstop bombs, and stick more goofy stickers on his van that he lived in down by the river.

Look at that knucklehead. That is a man who scares you. You're afraid of that.

    That's just silly.

Omar's negation of the atrocity that was committed on 9/11 and the jihadists who were responsible for it were given in the context of a fundraiser for a group that is linked to Hamas and has several high ranking officials serving lengthy sentences in federal prison on terrorism-related charges.

Given the context of her track record that comes as no surprise, either.
