Lots of Federal immigration laws are ignored, do you have any proof this one isn't?

 

A lot of illegals purposefully left themselves exposed to being easily located with the expectation that amnesty would include a provision that they be able to document both their presence and that they were employed while present. The reason the current administration can close the noose is that the prior administration set them up by not forcing immigration reform but leading people to believe they were safe out in the open.

 

The old bait and switch. Works every time.

 

Tell you what, why don't you call your local county SNAP office and tell them you want to sign up for benefits. They're going to ask you some questions, one of which is "Can you provide evidence that you are in this country legally?".

If the answer is no, then no soup for you.

Considering this can you provide any evidence, outside of a handful of fraud cases that have been well documented, that a significant amount of illegal aliens are receiving SNAP benefits?

 

Unfortunate for immigrant community that they believed the party who wanted the wedge issue more than actually fighting the good fight for them and got left high and dry. Equally unfortunate for those who believe that the GOP rounding up illegals will make any difference in their own fortunes.

 

I guess there's no reason to enforce any laws unless it will make a difference in your fortune. Even so, at around $100 billion a year, that will eventually add up to some real money. Not to mention the cost in prevention of new arrivals to future generations.

How much is it going to cost to enforce other laws on the magic day all illegal immigrants are gone and the cost of living goes through the roof?

No real need to deport. What makes more sense is to make eVerify mandatory for employment and ALL government benefits. Then take away their ability to keep legitimate jobs with phony, underage or stolen social security numbers. The SSA and IRS are all too well aware of multiple people using a single social security number. With modern computer databases, it wouldn't be hard to pluck out all the duplicate, non issued or under age users excepting the original issuee. Then send notices to their employers the duplicate users payments are coming from that there appears to be an error and they must verify the social security number within 30 days or face massive fines and jail time. Then move on to the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number filers, requiring them to provide their valid visa's allowing them to remain legally in the country, no proof, NO REFUND. Compile a list of those failing to provide the valid visa's and investigate if they are in the county legally, if not deport them.

The Democrats were always content to dangle the carrot of citizenship in front of the illegals of this country and never planned to do anything about it. The Dems had a majority in Congress and the White House in 2009, yet never brought up comprehensive immigration reform until they were on their House majority way out the door in Dec 2010.

 

George W. did too, but at least he had 9/11 to blame on his attention being diverted. Immigration reform is a rising issue is religious circles as well.
