Why didn't you bother to provide an economic analysis for this particular case study? The link provided took low powered to the nth order

Most of the area in the state is fairly rural and conservative, but Chicago (and the immediate surrounding area) basically gets to dictate Illinois politics because of their high population. Many parts of Chicago are almost as bad as Detroit, in terms of crime and poverty, and plenty of corruption too.

Even though Chicago is located in the Midwest there's also been a large number of undocumented people from Mexico migrating to the city.

Because of its centralized position on the Great Lakes, and being the largest city in the Midwest, Chicago has a history as being a first stop for newly arrived immigrant communities, going way back to the early 1890's (and even before then), although immigration came to a halt between the 1940s and the 1970s. First German settlers came, then Italians, then immigrants from Eastern Europe. There was also the Great Migration North of African Americans out of the South. In more recent decades immigrants have been coming from other parts of the world, from Laos, Mexico and Puerto Rico, Pakistan, and a small number from Nigeria and Ethiopia, and refugees fleeing from Northern Iraq (many of whom were Christians fleeing persecution and slaughter). Ironically there have still been attacks on Christians in Chicago. (A few incidences) Christians flee the Middle East to escape violence and then their persecutors are still waiting for them in the U.S. cities where they settle.

NYC hasn't had 60-70yrs of one party being in power. Chicago is a blaring glaring failure of Democrat governorship.
