It is great, members that ignore people cannot rebut the rebuttals they receive, it is like a free shot!
I prefer to utilize the philosophy of knowing my enema....
Well, that's not why you would join a message board, is it? For free shots? Do you like living in a vacuum?
Just be mindful or rules 3 and 4 when contemplating a free shot.
I love how the pictures consolidate themselves when replying to someone who posted a large picture. Just one of many new awesome things about this board. Way to go, nerds!
For those mods who might take "nerd" as an insult, it's me showing you love because I don't know the IT world
That would be the Pfnerdlings.
Absolutely not, and my reply was sarcasm. If people chose to ignore others than that is their choice but it is they who are creating a vacuum. If you cannot handle rebuttals and chose to ignore that person it is like sticking your fingers in your ears and shouting I cannot here you, it is childish, and self defeating.
Something I like about the new board: If you start a new thread and write a long post, and then it fails to submit because apparently it took you too long, and it blanks out on you, everything you've written isn't all gone now. You can go back into the topic you were in and press "start topic" and you will find everything you wrote before is there. There is nothing more frustrating when you wrote a long opening post and then everything disappeared after it had problems submitting.
Here's the thing: I have a number of people here who I strongly disagree with on over half, maybe even two-thirds or more, of any given topic here: Aphotic, FreedomSeeker, SnakeStretcher, Natty, Jonsa, Moon, Alexa, FoxHastings - that's just off the top of my head, there's many more. And yet all four of them almost always argue their side of the argument with wit and intelligence, they make a case for their side and try to prove it as best they can. They don't take short cuts and they don't usually resort to name-calling. Heck, before he was perma-banned we used to have a bona-fide Nazi here - long-time posters know who I'm referring to - and he was probably one of the smartest people on this board, and I say that even though there were times he'd post something where my first reaction was to wish I could reach thru the monitor and slap him silly And yet, I loved this forum BECAUSE there were so many people here of all outlooks who were willing to argue their viewpoints - I still think this place is great because of that.
Now, I have four people on my ignore list. All four of them display NONE of these attributes. They often post only one-liners or usually short posts, often use the same catch-phrases, never make any kind of real argument, and are in it just to troll. I found I missed nothing by putting them on ignore. In fact, I recently took one of these posters OFF ignore and found that he was still doing the same old thing, so back on he went. They add nothing to the board, add nothing to the argument, and nothing of importance to any kind of discussion. The ignore function is perfect for use against people here - and thank the mods there are relatively few of them - who already are an intellectual vacuum on the forum and whose rebuttals are not worth the electrons they've wasted.
Actually,....the old site had an auto-save feature for posts.
You just had to have an eagle-eye to see the restore button.
That is certainly one way of looking at it.
Another way is to take the adult approach of ignoring the petulant child who is incessantly demanding your attention.
I only use Cyberia for trolls that persistently demand the same responses over and over again even after they have been supplied with the relevant facts. I tolerate it up to a point and even try just ignoring their responses but once it becomes apparent that their posts are a futile waste of my time I buy them a one way ticket on the Iggy Express.
No, I do not consider it be self defeating to frustrate trolls by having nothing further to do with them since they were not bringing anything of value to the table. Please note that my ignore list is very short and I do not ignore those who I disagree with on matters of principle. Having a good debate is one of the reasons why I am here and so I agree to respectfully disagree with their opinions and positions.
There is a significant difference between those who hold different opinions to my own and those who are just trolling for the sake of attention. As far as I am concerned I have a limited amount of available time and I would much rather use it productively than waste it on the vacuous trolls.
Now you tell me!! I can't even guess at how many posts I lost when it kept going into 'too many members online' or 'too busy' (whatever it was) mode, meaning I had to type them all over again. And they were there all the time!
WHATTTT? Who else knew about this sorcery?
Separate names with a comma.
