The ignore list is the second best feature in the forum (subscriptions being #1).

But you don’t see any content at all. You don’t see blank posts with “you are ignoring this content.” It’s just gone. I do think that immediately after ignoring a person you’ll see that message. But if you leave your browser and come back, it’s all gone.

The only downside is some conversations can be confusing. But if I see posts where I can’t understand the flow of the conversation, then I pretty much know they are talking with an ignored party.

My rule for ignoring members is including people who routinely broad brush whole populations as evil. I just don’t have the patience for it. And you know that any discussion with them is an exercise in futility anyway. After getting rid of the bad apples, I was pleasantly surprised to find a number of intelligent and considerate voices remained. Just getting rid of a few bad actors changes the whole tone of the forum.

I go back and forth on using ignore. I don't think I've ever had more than six people on it. Currently I have none because I'm in the mood where some people I normally ignored have become amusing. That might change in a few months, I dunno.

But yeah, I agree - I've never put people on ignore because I disagreed with them, only for being parrots who same the same thing over and over and over and over again. Basically for being boring.

The ignore feature to me seems little more than an entertainment killer....some of the best laughter I have gotten here is attributed to members that most ignore. The really nasty people I use my brain to ignore.

Yeah.when I came back, I took everyone off of ignore.

Many reasons, but I will single out 2 of them.

    1) I was missing too much comic entertainment.

    2) Sitting around all day reporting infractions (just like the RW does (24/7) to me).

I love the ignore feature. There are some people who are so intellectually dishonest that they don't deserve me even reading what they write. It takes me a long time to put someone on ignore, though. There's one person I put on ignore who could only type one thing: "And THEN she'll be president?" It's a waste of time to even have to scroll past it.

I would never consider putting someone on ignore for a difference of opinion. I wouldn't be here if it was a Rush Limbaugh ditto style forum where everyone just clicks +1 all the time. Yawn. (I got kicked off that forum something like 13 years ago for having a difference of opinion.) I can't continue to evolve without the ability to change my mind as new information is learned.

The absolute worst type of poster is the people who believe that their team is always right and never does wrong and the other team is always wrong and will never do right. Ugh.... no use for that. There is no such thing as a perfect human. One has never existed and one will never exist, so to pretend your "team" is 100% pure is insane.

My favorite posters are people who don't need to know the letter next to the name before deciding how they feel about them.

I consider it a tool that helps me save time. Do you open all your junk mail, too, just in case, this time, it might be useful? It's like that.

i enjoy reading everyone's comments, some fer laffs, some fer o_O, others are simple enough to skim over. i don't feel the need to reply to every comment so the bs ones don't matter...

i don't read email period, same for social media... all that crapola is for people without lives ;)
