Hi all. Glad to be here :)

Last year was my first chance to vote in a presidential election. Yea I'm that young. I was really disappointed with my choices and ended up voting third party for a guy with no chance to win. It was really a bummer to know my first presidential vote would be wasted. I had to vote for someone because to me it's a big deal to get to help choose our leaders. I just couldn't bring myself to vote for either Clinton or Trump. There were other candidates on both sides I could have voted for but not those two.

I kind of wanted Trump to win not because I thought he was better than Clinton but because I was afraid of how his supporters would react to a loss. A peaceful transfer of power is one of the things that makes America awesome. Now I see it didn't matter who won because the democrats are behaving worse than how I thought the republicans would behave. Instead of just protesting Trump's polices they're trying to impeach him because his wife won't hold his hand. Or so it appears from a neutral prospective.

I hope president Trump becomes a good president because even though I didn't vote for him, I'm an American, he won and so he's my president.

Oh damn this wasn't supposed to be a rant. Meh, now it is.

So when do the 2018 midterms start?

    Congrats !!

Every year since Ike the choices have not been easy.

Ike was an easy choice. He was a nice guy who got credit for surprising the crap out of Adolf and successfully landing 1.3 million allied troops right on Adolf's doorstep at the cost of only 120,000 battle deaths -- 10%.

Everybody liked Ike. Both the GOP and the DEM's wanted Ike to run for their party. There has never been a more complete agreement on the POTUS since George Washington, who similarly was a war hero from the Battle Of Yorktown.

In my first election the choices were between two sickening candidates too. Same as this time.

I made the mistake of choosing one of them. Now I have to live with it decades later.

That is why I did not make the same mistake again this time around. I also voted 3rd party. I wish my 3rd party candidate would have won but he did not stand a chance either.

But now I have a clear conscience.

    Welcome to American politics !!

Thanks. I hope you're congratulating me on my first vote and not just on participating in this forum. This place has already awarded me three virtual participation trophies which leads me to believe the forum software was designed by hippies.

@Ineffable I am putting you on my VIP list (following) since you are independent also, and since you seem to have the same viewpoints that I do as well. Welcome to the forum.

I wanted my first presidential vote to be for a winner and so I thought about voting for Clinton because it was "obvious" she was going to win. However the more I read and heard about her there was no way I could live with myself if I helped put her in office.

Trump I figured as more of an unknown and scary in a different way. I wasn't offended by his politically incorrect statements instead I was worried that he wasn't up to the job. Plus a little afraid he'd do something really stupid that would harm America. I couldn't vote for him either.

So I played it safe and voted for a guy that seems to know less about geography than I do. By "safe" I meant I knew he wouldn't win so it didn't matter if he was qualified or not.

At least I get to witness these exciting times first-hand! In fifty years I'll be telling stories of how I lived through the biggest political upset ever.

Thank you for the welcome and I'm glad to be here.

A vote for independent candidates is always a wasted vote. You will learn that over time. I congratulate you on voting though, get your friends to vote as well.

Is my vote more wasted than a republican presidential vote in California or a democratic presidential vote in Mississippi?

To edit... I know I know I myself said my vote was wasted in my OP. I'm defensive because I didn't like feeling that it was. It was my first presidential vote and it bummed me out that I couldn't vote for the winner. An argument could be made that third party votes aren't really wasted but I'm not in the mood for that argument.

The worst thing however is voting for a winner and they turn out to be another Nixon.

That was the risk in this election.

A risk I was not willing to take.

Ahhhh ok. My conscience is boring though. I would have liked to have been partying like the Trump people were on election night. They looked like were having the time of their lives.
On the other side hopefully I'll never be so invested in my candidate that I'll break down the way Clinton snowflakes did when she lost. They were in complete shock. The polling error wasn't that large or unusual but yet they acted like it was another extinction event.

The key to democracy is to recognize that majority rule is the final word and that everyone must agree to disagree and be agreeable about it.

I fully expected Hillary to win, and although I did not want her to, I did not want Trump either.

In this case there was no lesser of two weevils. They were both equally bad.

While Hillary had more experience in government than Trump, she had also made some big blunders. So she could be better or worse than Trump. But now we will never know.

Trump will only last 2 to 4 years at the rate he is going anyway.

Obstruction of justice is a biggie and Mueller will not let it go.

Hillary won Nevada so it is as if you voted for Hillary anyway.

So you don't need to feel you vote was wasted. Nor did it matter much, since your preferred candidate won your state anyway.

The really big 3 states voted for Hillary -- Calif, NY, and ILL.

The next big 5 states voted for Trump -- Tex, Fla, Pa, Mich, Ga.

The other states split, although Trump got most of them.

The Rocky Mountains mostly went for Trump, except Colo & NM.

    It was a close race.

Obstruction of justice will be hard to prove until they first prove there was a crime.

I'm from Columbus Georgia. I live in Las Vegas and haven't seen the rest of Nevada so I couldn't say. It's all very brown and hot but I am loving the low humidity.

My preferred candidate was the CIA guy. He got some votes but not enough.

Maybe next time he will win something somewhere though.

Try drive a few miles to one of those "outback" type towns and stay at the motel.
Discover Nevada. Sort of like "Twin Peaks" in the desert. Eat at the local coffee shop, etc.
Las Vegas and probably Reno too are not really Nevada. Different culture. Lowest % born in Nevada.

Possibly you should announce you are from Las Vegas by way of Georgia.
Or just Las Vegas and anyone who knows anything will know you moved there from someplace else. :)

Yes, but Flynn clearly committed a crime, no question, and Trump tried to obstruct the FBI investigation of it, fairly obviously a crime.

It should be just a matter of time before Trump has to step down.

Aren't those the hotels you see in horror movies? Should I take some of my college friends and then we can all split up at the first sign of trouble and then get murdered in grisly ways one by one?

We'll see. Trump seems to be pretty good at coming through trouble okay.
