When I visited Europe (England and France) with my family what mattered the most was the strength of the American dollar. We waited until we could get more buying power. The politics of England and France didn't come into play because really politics don't have much impact unless you're visiting a country that's really hostile to the west.

I suspect that's what's going on with the people who are deciding to put off their visits to America. Most tourists aren't going to cancel a visit to America just because of Trump, because Trump being president will have no impact on their vacation but a poor exchange rate will.

Although I could see people from Muslim countries canceling their visits out of fear that Trump has stirred up hate against them.

The article itself states the cause of the decline wasn't pinpointed.

The Portland Throat Slasher, was he a Muslim, then? Sure, not quite a heads off moment but getting there.

It certainly isn't if you're a gutless antifa or another lib looking for a handout.

I disagree. The most dangerous is the New Yorker from boroughs.

He rides subways, buses, and taxis for 350 days a year. Then he and the family get on a plane to Orlando and rent the biggest SUV on the planet for their vacation. A left turn across five lanes of traffic on Broadway will get you a minor dent. On SOBT it will get you T-Boned from multiple directions.

Still, no problems folks. C'mon down. Leave your money. Take back your huddling masses yearning for warm winters.

the market and currency value is based on how well investors believe the economy will do in the future not on how well it is currently doing or done in the past
But I don't expect a liberal to understand that

You'd only be a bad businessman, if you continued to let into your store, the armed robber that got in last week..... Or the week before...... Or yesterday....

You don't know who has the cash to buy until they get to the register .....

As a businessman though, you learn how to better spot the shoplifters, or armed robbers.... You do everything you can to keep them out.

This isn't surprising to me at all but I think it is too early to call it the fault of Trump.

At the same time we have seen far larger and more dramatic shifts as to illegal immigration on the border so perhaps the two are correlated.

There are pros and cons to every action and perhaps that is something we ill need to get used to with our stricter border policies.

Illegal immigration down 70% and tourism down 16%, I would take that trade off as it stands now. We will see what happens in the future when we have more data.

Just so you know - that 16% dip in tourism equals about $255 BILLION dollars in income to American businesses.

Cash isn't everything. Besides, give it a bit of time. I'm sure things will adjust.

    As EXPECTED.

Who would want to visit a country that has the sort of Electoral System that could facilitate the election of an AMATEURISH IMBECILE (almost 3 million NPV LOSER) like Trump?

So the "new normal" will just be $250 billion LESS than it used to be. No big deal. As long as Trump is happy. That's all that matters.

Does that mean the left is gonna leave?????? You guys should. According to you, there's better opportunities out there.

Best of luck on your future endeavors. There's no way you guys would stay here and whine a lot...is there?

Except that during the Obama years, international tourism rose from about 55 million visitors a year to 65 million a year which resulted
in about $50 BILLION more in the pockets of American businesses. That Makes Trump the loser - and Trump makes Americans the losers.

Oh yea I forgot importing foreigners is the only way to make money.

Can't relay drawn sanctions and make money off other people again. oh wait.

Asinine post on your part. This is money made from foreign TRAVELERS - not immigrants. You know - Disney, Grand Canyon, Florida Beaches. What's so hard about understanding this?

Travelers are foreigners. They 100% fit into what I said. Unless you're talking about people who already live in the US in which case, this is pointless.

Actually, I'm not quite sure what you said - it was barely English ... "Can't relay drawn sanctions" ...?

It's how you remove sanctions from a country you aren't at war with. It's the opposite of what Pelosi is demanding.

Turn on CSPAN. I know it's boring but you might learn something.

I am very aware of it as well as the damage done by illegal immigrants to our economy. I have done the equation in my head and if it were something long term, 70% down in illegal immigration for 16% down in tourism is a trade I would be willing to make.

So once again, yes, I have done the math and yes, it is extremely worthwhile.

While I do appreciate you attempting to spin the conversation (including capitalizing the world billion, EEEEVVVVIIIIIIILLL!!!) As I said first and then repeated here, that is a good tradeoff for the country.

There is however a lot more information that needs to be seen before we can try and pin this on anyone. I know the atmosphere of the country is to scream until you are blue in the face and call the other person evil but that ain't me.

UGH, man am I getting tired of this spin....

Tries a personal attack and then when you throw it back in his face, he tries to spin the conversation to something else. Your statement made perfect sense. "Cannot relay drawn sanctions..." is a statement that is just fine, the poster (Daniel) either a) doesn't like the verbiage you chose or b) realized he lost the arguement and wants to spin away from a conversation into a fight, making anything said meaningless. Either way he falls back on immaturity and attacks and therefor the debate is literally gone. Now we are fighting instead of talking, this is what the country is at this point and it is disgusting.

It is just frustrating that his snarky types of attacks are becoming the norm. MSNBC has been HORRIBLE with this for a while now. All of their commentators personally attack anyone whom they don't agree with, all with the stupid little smile on their face 'alla' Rachael Maddow.

Unfortunately this stupid trend is catching on and now every new person on FOX is doing it too.

Interesting. We had long-standing plans to visit Canada in 2018, but have now cancelled in light of the quasi-fascism and creeping authoritarianism of the Trudeau govt.
